  • Honda Unicorn - Speedo console clarification

    Hello All

I have 2005 Honda Unicorn - (with honda wings stickers on the tank). I have been touring alot with Unicorn these days. However, felt the need to have the trip meter helps me during my tours.

Subsequent year model Unicorn speedo console comes with trip meter. I wonder why not have this on my bike.

So, today I went to Honda Unicorn Dealer's spares section and told my requirement. The guy showed the trip meter to me and I was glad to see the new piece which was costing around 2.8k.

Since I wanted to make sure if this would be direct fit on to my older Uni, requested him to compare with the older speedo which he had. The screw position was all ditto. Then looking at the front curve of the plastic which was slightly obvious, he immediately got to a mechanic passing by.

I showed my bike if this new speedo could be fitted, he said, might not be a direct fit sir, since there would be some slight modification on to the front visor as the new speedo console is slightly protruding and will not fit.

Also, he scared me saying that the other day another customer had come asking for similar requirement and after taking it up, he ended spending on the new front fairing change and stuff like that, which I thought .

The other option he said, is to cut the front curve part to a thin, so that it would fit. He said this mod can be done.

So I ended up coming home empty and also disappointment.

Guys I need help to determine if my idea to plonk the speedo with trip meter possible on my bike or not.

Moderators: I did not come across any thread so have created one. Should there already exist, please merge along. Thanks.

Did you mean Visor? If yes, then I would not want to change then it does not go well with rest of the fairing and tank pattern.

I'm looking for something with minimum modification though it looks like inevitable with making huge change to my front part.

better to order a Digital cycle speedo for 300 bucks tops, and clip to your bikes handlebar. you can remove it and keep it in your pocket when getting off the bike. pm me your email address, ill mail you some links.

If you are OK having different colored dials then buy only the inner of speedometer (i guess it is available as spare else hit the junk)

2800rs is non sense pricing !!

Just replace the inner unit, ofcourse will require some juggads for trip reset !!

^+1. Rs.2.8k seems ridiculous. I remember Pradeep telling me his Sigma costed him around 2.5K. Might as well pick up that one.

Since the dealer might not accept to take the new piece out of the showroom to compare with the positioning of present speedo console, I took a close look at the present speedo console on my bike. Between the visor and the speedo console looks like there is a space/gap. If the new speedo console has the front curve got some thikness, thinking if this would still have room to fit. It my only faint idea.

Why I have brought this question on this forum is that, it would very costly experiment for me to buy and try this out. Only wish if anyone has come across such or with their friends bike.

Also I think, Honda has designed the present speedo with some thickness on the front curve might be to reduce the vibration in high velocity. Where as my bike would give me vibrations.. again its my personal opinion.
