  • Unicorn 2005 resurrected

Hey every 1 , being a wing rider yourself all you people can understand what an amazing piece of machinery Unicorn happens to be ,

It was my first bike , and happens to be the my favourite steed though i own many other bikes , Just cant leave it for any other .

its a 2005 model with self start and clocked approx 44k kilometers .
all this long journey it never let me down even once , but time takes its toll
and my machine has slowly starting to show its age ,

1.> The carburetor has become laggy , no brisk response
2.> The suspension has bogged down , (body scrapes when i cross speed breakers )
3.> Rear brake has worn off
4.> Gear changes are clumsy , take a lot of effort
5.> Battery has died down , (5 years isnt a small time )

Now its time i need to mod it down to my specs ,

this ive thought of remodeling it to the Ducati streetfighter look

1.> tWin side exhaust , (kindly lighten upon the cost availability and technical difficulties possible )

2.> k&n filter , just want some grunt , mileage no concern

3.> engine Cover , Suggest any ive thought of gladiator ss

4.> headlight , pulsar135's headlight would look good i think

    5.> rear disk

6.> Clip on handle bars , would the pulsar clip ons fit on unicorn ..? ?

Since I also own 2005 model (black wings sticker) Unicorn, would like to ask my querry to you. And sorry for bit out of the topic here.

Today I noticed that there was a small hole beneath the silencer where you see all the tube come down near the wheel and the air passing through the silencer(stock) was been seeping out through it. Do you remember having this on your bike?

Its a design feature to drain any fluids collected inside the silencer. Nothing to worry, its normal

well,if u really have the cash, then i guess waitin for the dazzler parts to come would be a very good option.. the u can get the dazzlers swing arm, dual spring mono suspension,17" rims at both ends,i have my doubts abt the 135's headlight though, but as for the handle - try the old p180's handle as a 2 set handle will look good but the local one's will @#&^ up the handling.. or if u want to spend money on makin the bike go faster(if u were u,i would do that),contact joel - he sais he has some mod's for the uni

If I were in your place, I would have restored it to stock form. I actually did do that with my 5 year, 50K old Fiero F2.
I don't think your bike is in that bad condition, you can get clutch, suspension etc.overhauled&it would be good to go!
If you feel you want it to look new, get it repainted.

if u are still thinking about small bits and peices taht can spice up ur bike, u can do the following

                      1) carb of unicorn is very restrictive-- go in for a p200 carb- this is also used for the bullet.
                      cost 2500

                      2) u can get a ff intake filter preferably K&N 1060 but get it upjetted to size 140!!!
cost 1750 approx + 1000 approx for the jets and tuneup

                      3) since u are gonna change the silencer, get a decently used silencer of unicorn and get a tin exhaust done from a good welder the pipe routing is your creativity i will recomend using ss316 grade pipes so that they never rust and look awesome as exhausts but remember, its trial and error
cost 4000-8000 depending on ur creativity

                      4) get the gearbox sprocket changed and chose one with 2 teeths more than the stock one. this will improve ur top end
                      cost 1100

                      enjoy the ride

Elaborate on this, when you say sprocket there are two, front and rear.

@blakbird - Since your bike has already clocked 44k kms, i would suggest that you first make the bike mechanically sound, then it would make sense to go for these mods.

By making the bike mechanically sound, would be to rework anything in the engine thats necessary, like gaskets, piston, rings, cylinder etc, changing the gearshifting dogs, so your shifts are crisp again, Timing chain, valve clearance, head cleaning etc.

You can rework the clutch, get new pressure and clutch plates, change the clutch springs etc to freshen up the feed back.

Change the oil in the front suspension, and the fork springs and seals, that will bring it back to original damping to certain extent.

Replace steering race and cone set, and get the rear swing arm bush checked and lubricated.

I dont know eactly what work can be carried out on the rear mono shock, but if something can be done, it should be refurbished to bring the damping back.

I would sum it up like this.

you bought the bike it was 100/100
Now after 44k kms and 5 years, its 60/100

What you plan to do will make it 70-75/100.

If you go with making it mechanically sound first, you will reach 80-90/100, and then you can do the rest ( though those mods will not take you to 110/100! ).

Refurbish the bike, and then go for mods. thats my suggestion.

My offerings to the gods of speed -

                          - KTM Duke 200
                          - Yamaha RXZ 5 speed

                            +1 on that..

first get ur bike to a mechanically sound condition and then go for the mods

there is no point in having a bike that disintegrates the moment u touch 115 kmph

also, by changing the sprockets, i meant,

change front sprocket( the one on gearbox) to get higher top end

change rear sprocket to get more acceleration for stunting

dont do both cos then u will not be able to get anything .

                            adios
