  • [Help]: Riding in the Rains

I have Yamaha Gladiator 2010 model,

I wish to do some touring? what factors should i consider when i tour during rainy seasons..

What are the list of precautions i should take while riding in rain, i wear power spec's also....

Is there a helmet that has a wiper facility...

If so, please elaborate, i think a wiper helmet can eliminate the problem of visibility when driving in rains?

    pl. advice

In addition, I would like to add few more questions
      1. How to protect electronic items such as Camera/iPod/mobile phone?
      2. Are there any complete rain proof dressing that can help avoid a single drop of water entering clothes?

the most important thing driving in the rain is to use engine brake more than normal brake

          To answer your questions:

          1. Suggest you to bundle the electronic items by a think plastic cover tight. Then put in another plastic cover and roll them and keep it inside. Even if the water gets inside the bag and gets in touch with first layer of plastic cover, the second layer would prevent from any water and moisture into the electronic gadgets. Unless if there are any polka dots (holes)

          2. Not sure.

I potentially see a problem in this, though I could be wrong completely as I haven't experienced this.

See when someone rides completely in rains or in sun, no issues. But when the switching happens the moisture content in air contents differs as well as the temperature differences. Due to this, when the movement from rain to sun occurs, the plastic cover blocks the moisture from escape causing the water droplets to be settled over the electronic gadget.

I usually use a water proof backpack.

I have been to trekking in the past and sometimes it used to rain in between the journey, all we used to do is double pack in plastic covers. The first one would be bundled real tight thus leaving very little air inside and the second would also be bundled nice.

I could be wrong in my approach, however, it did prevent water seeping inside.

Just shared my real time experience.

You don't need a wiper, lol. Just wipe your visor with a rain repellent coating like the "raincoat" gel/spray from fogtech. I ordered them online...

                1) If you have those items in a backpack, then order a waterproof bag/luggage(with an elastic gusset) cover online. It will keep water completely out once on the regular bag.

                2) You mean like a water repellent spray? No. But if you invest in a single piece rain oversuit like this, then be guaranteed to stay 100% dry and you can keep your wallet and iPod etc dry too. This suit can be worn over your regular clothes - make sure whatever you order has a Goretex lining. Expensive, but a long term investment.

I love it when it rains because I am 100% waterproof and get to enjoy the sparse traffic during heavy rains. I have a two piece Taichi Rainbuster oversuit, and water proof boot covers as well. And I spray the water repelling spray over my helmet visor!

                    You mean like this?

protect the phone, camera and wallet. and get wet. wet underwear feels great and you will love the vodka in the hotel room too.

open up the visor and ride.
wear essilor crizal elize lenses. they work great in rains.
The DSG Nero Jacket's pocket near the heart with the vertical zip is the best place where you keep your phone in rains.
Do not remove gloves when the get wet.

do not stop under a tree; just keep riding. you might get struck with a lightening bolt.

I second that. Looks more like a gimmick.

Use fogtech"s raincoat, cheap and effective for helmet visors. Today it was raining heavily, and I was zipping (and 100% dry) by while everyone else was taking shelter.

I dont remember how much it was since I ordered a combination of fogtech anti fog and raincoat. But it was darned cheap, thats for sure. I think it did not exceed $10. Shipping is like $5 or something like that. They ship in a padded envelope(like for CD's) and the gel comes in condom like packets. Tear it off and apply the toothpaste like thing to your visor and then buff it off with a cloth. Ready to roll!

The water just rolls off the visor instead of sticking to it. Applying it takes a few minutes.

Sometimes I use another spray from Pit racing which I bought from Japan and that works well too.

Ps: Remember to order the fogtech 'Raincoat' and not the anti-fog thing.
