  • HELP ME : Need Help for changing several things on my CBZ star 2005 model

    Hi Friends,

Can you help me in changing several parts on my CBZ star bike which is a 2005 model. Below are my questions -

    1. I want to change my tyres (Both front and Rear). What type of tyres i should go in for? should i go in for tubeless tyres or tube tyre and which brand?

    2. If i put in K&N filter, will that make any difference and if so which K&N filter i should go in for?

    3. My bike's pick up has come down drastically from the times of purchase . Can someone please suggest me how to get that corrected?

    4. Also, my head lamp is really bad. Visibility is really very poor. Can someone let me know which one is good and how about halogen bulb?

Please help me out guys !!!!!!!!

You may go for tubeless tyres..as handling them is easy apart from other minor benefits but i would suggest you keep the stock specification. A different size and type will definitely affect the handling, braking, etc of the bike.

      2. If i put in K&N filter, will that make any difference and if so which K&N filter i should go in for?
K&N filters are made to make the difference. But of course you will feel the change instantly. Dunno which one will fit CBZ though. However some people have told me that the power difference was not much, not worth the money one will spend on it.. but still it was there)....and definitely you will be comprising with the kmpl

      3. My bike's pick up has come down drastically from the times of purchase . Can someone please suggest me how to get that corrected?
Pass (many possible reasons including condition of piston rings, bike jets' setting, carb setting, etc)

      4. Also, my head lamp is really bad. Visibility is really very poor. Can someone let me know which one is good and how about halogen bulb?
you may put 60/55 W headlamp if your battery is atleast 9Ah. That will brighten the space ahead you. Halonix/Phillips/Osram will do. (though i personally feel Halonix is better than Osram. Just a feeling)

          Hi Anoop!!
1)If you are going for tubeless tyres then,I prefer you to go for new pulsar 180UG4's It's 120/80*17 REAR AND 90/90*17 FRONT... (17 is the rim size)
          Brand MRF ZAPPER..
2)Get you carb's jet size increased and tuned(this results in proper and good fuel-air mix) and Get new clutch plates...
3)Only installing K&N airfilter will not even give a slight change... You must upjet your carb...stock airfilters are only designed and meant for giving clean air to your carb whereas K&N airfilters give you clean and more air than stock ones...I prefer you RC-1060 for your bike...

Judging by the condition of ur bike, i would not recommend a free flow intake now , at this point. for the cost of that u might as well get a good carburetor.. get things tuned really well.the K&n is a free flow filter. it not only lets in more air, but other things also..on the long run, u will curse it.
note this : a K&n will give u marginal bump in power. to be on the safer side, stick to stock.

regarding headlamps, try getting the assembly changed. the CBz assembly isnt so clear. the inner sides of ur headlamp assembly might have turned slightly yellow. if im right.

Putting tubeless on spoke wheels is impossible, you will have to put alloys before that.

K&N improves mileage may be by 1 or 2kms when u don't upjet. But when u upjet ull lose mileage. Makes bike rough as well.

For better light, rewind the coil, put round headlight and plonk in Halonix 55/60w or Philips Rally 90/100w. Best place in Bangalore for this job is RUBY ELECTRICALS.

I guess you should also post this on the CBZ thread, the CBZ gurus will definitely help. I will give my opinion though.
                    1. The best tyre I have seen for the CBZ is the one the Classic used to come with-Dunlop Geo Cruiser. Front is also Dunlop something else.

                    2. You will have to change the size of the jets, change some other settings in the carb for modifying the A:F ratio. Do you wanna do this for the grunt or pickup? I don't think pickup would improve drastically by doing this. As for the grunt, the stock CBZ has enough of it.

                    3. How many kms.have you done? I suspect worn out clutch plates, clogged carburettor etc. Replacing&cleaning would help. If the vehicle has not been serviced properly i.e.infrequent oil changes, maybe piston rings/valves need replacement. Engine overhaul in other words. Will not cost too much unless you are going for a new piston&cylinder kit.

                    4. CBZ is not known for powerful illumination. Check the ownership thread. Some are using HIDs&others are using more powerful headlamps of course with battery upgrades as well.
I say, first check whether the reflector compartment is yellow/melted. Replace headlamp assembly if required. If not, you can get a slightly more powerful headlamp&battery.
                    Quench my thirst with gasoline!
