My sincere advice to you is to ensure you have procured ALL the papers and documentation from the owner. While mostly the heart takes over the mind in these kind of matters it is wise to exercise control and make an informed decision. Not having a bill of landing means this bike was brought down illegally (as parts and assembled) or the value was quoted much lower than what it costs.

Authorities also faced a lot of flak for registering such bikes in the past... the RTO, the customs dept, etc. So even if the owner manages to get you an NOC ensure the bike is legal in all aspects and you have the papers to prove it. Speak to superbike owners who have legally brought down such bikes. One of them i can recommend is Manson who owns a Honda CBR. Also see this

I saw a bunch of bikes in the 400-600 range and given this predicament i instead went for a fully legal no tension 250R. That maybe nowhere close to a bigger bike but I have peace of mind and wont have to hide the bike everytime there are checks by the DRI / RTO / Excise dept.

Take a well informed decision. If not you will end up paying a huge penalty in addition to the duties, taxes, octroi, etc that are outstanding.

      All the best.

P.S. Mod's - i hope i have not broken any rules by posting a link to an external forum.

          Don't go for it.
Every words of Aditya is to be graved. If you want sleepless nights, then FZ600 is your choice, if not wait for few more years & to get one or do a direct import all by yourself from abroad.
