  • Is my way of driving correct

I just turned 18 and bought a new r15, I am a new driver so I am not really good at driving at this point. I just wanted to ask you guys. When I am on low speed and there is a car ahead of me, can I keep the clutch pressed? I heard from someone that clutch riding is not good for clutch plates. Please throw some light and help me out.
Patience is something you admire in the driver behind you and scorn in the one ahead.

Congrats on your first bike - the R15!!! It's a good bike, do take good care of it. Coming to your question - by saying "clutch pressed", you're not very clear as to what you do. Do you close the throttle when the clutch lever is depressed?, do you depress the clutch lever fully or do you ride with the clutch partially engaged? (This is not a good practice most of the time). Remember that while some riding practices are severely damaging to your bike and a strict No no, most other riding habits and techniques are best used in certain circumstances and best avoided otherwise.

Since you consider yourself a novice rider, it would help you to read a few articles on Engine Braking and some other good topics in the Pit Stop section.

Most importantly ride safe, don't hesitate to take calculated steps to try new techniques, just don't push your luck too hard and you'll probably learn a lot more than any article can teach.

      Happy Safe riding!!!

        dude,

        first conracs for nu bike,

regarding cluch issue, in my opinion dont practice to keep holding cluch lever, not even a single finger on it while riding....
I dont know why people keep their hands on clutchs

if you want to press the clutch, then press it completely or don't..regarding slowing down, depress the clutch completely and cut the throttle and brake..since you and your bike are both new, recommending engine braking is not good at this point..so brake when you have completely pressed the clutch lever and cut off the throttle completely.

Since you mention 'car in front', I presume you are asking about braking. If you engage the clutch you will loose on the additional 'engine braking' that you'd recieve otherwise. Your braking distance will be longer. So it entirely depends on whether you are in a need of it or not!!! Like Fayad mentions it is dependent on circumstances. the advise may apply in one situation and may not in another. He has nicely put how to improve over time.
