    Hello,

    I have a question in mind which I'd like to clear up. While I am driving and I not using throttle but the bike is in motion can I pull the clutch fully and let the bike run with clutch fully pulled till I need to use the throttle again?

    I've read few threads here at xbhp and but still I am confused, some say it saves fuel and some say it decreases clutch life. Please help me out with this.

      Yes, it decreases the clutch life. Best way is to shift to neutral and then cruise, but again it is not advisable to come down through all the gears at higher speeds.

        So while moving at low speed where I dont need to use the throttle should I just let go of the throttle and the clutch and let the bike move? also When I have to stop at the red lights I downshift all the gears while moving, as you are saying its not advisable can you tell me when to downshift when I have to stop.

            Yes, it decreases the clutch life. Best way is to shift to neutral and then cruise, but again it is not advisable to come down through all the gears at higher speeds.

            What he meant was that dont downshift at high speeds. When you have to stop at Red-lights, your speed decreases and then, you can downshift...

            Also, when you gradually reduce your speed, shift down the gears accordingly so that you don't have to do an abrupt braking with full clutch use & shift down all gears immediately; hope you got the point.

            Base point being, learn to ride in the right gears, be it acceleration or deceleration, and you'll not want to engage the clutch when closing the throttle.

              ders a trick to downshift also called as knack.Kaaat/kaaaarrrr sound shudnt come wen u downshift while at high speed mite screw ur gearbox royally.Slow down a bit and den downshift always works for me

                Okay, So I corrected my way of riding as you guys said, but now when I shift and I release the clutch I have to bear jerks, Say I am riding at 55 kmph and I wanna slow down, I apply brakes -- Pull Clutch -- DownShift -- Release Clutch -- Brakes -- Pull Clutch -- Downshift..

                But this gives a jerk as soon as I release the clutch after downshifting.

                  First of all It will not save fuel using clutch means burning fuel,decreases clutch life true..100%

                  Don't do this because you are burning fuel,clutch,giving stress on engine and yes decreasing chain set life
                  your bike breaking hampers when you first press clutch then use break
                  best way is do opposite use engine breaking first,press break then clutch to shift down

                    That jerk you are facing is either due to shift to 2nd gear or engine is revving not according to gear shifts. I think you are new to riding bikes. Let it happen and learn, learn and learn.

                    It looks like you engage the clutch and downshift closing the throttle and then releasing the clutch instantly and then opening the throttle. There must be balance while releasing the clutch and opening the throttle.

                    While riding at 55kmph if u need to brake then first of all close the throttle fully. After that start squeezing brakes (not too aggressively) You can feel lack in power. Once the engine rev is reduced then pull the clutch and downshift. Don't release the clutch too fast and before releasing clutch start twisting the throttle a bit (Its known as Blip). You will get a smooth shift.

                        i wont say im a expert in biking...in heavy traffic we do a half clutch operation to avoid jerks...
                        as for the downshifting of gears it can be perfected only by practice...to avoid a khat/kheerr sound...just keep a look on ur speed since u r a beginner do the downshifting from top gears when u reach a speed of 20-25 to avoid the "khat khat" sound...
                        my CB Unicorn when i shift gears up/down..the sound is like "Click" and im proud of tat...and whenever its not "Click" i am angry at myself...

                          I was referring to the same. How to avoid half clutch? Riding with the half clutch wears the clutch faster.
