  • Legal formalities for a small Paint Job?

    Hello guys.
I own a Yellow FZ16,that's the Yellow Streak.
as you know the only Yellow parts are the "Air Intake" ,the front mud guard and the center portion of the tank. Now i would like to paint these parts to some other color and i was wondering if ill have to get some legal formalities done.Does such a small paint job require legal clearance?
btw in my RC book the color of the bike is "Yellow Streak"

    Thank You

the color of the vehicle in the rc book is written after visual inspection....

but in india i dont think it would make much of a difference although if you are changing the differentiating color written in the rc you will have to get it reinspected at the rto.....
      Timon: Orange Yamaha FZ16 2009
      Optimus: Red Mahindra XUV500 W8 FWD 2013
Atom: Red Tata Nano XTA 2016
      Pumba: Red Harley Street 750

I had changed the color of my Unicorn from Silver to Black but never thought of changing it. But if you didn't change the color in RC, you might face the price depreciation while selling your bike which happened to me. Other problems am not aware.

As per what I know (which may or may not be accurate), you are supposed to get the RC book updated when you change the paint. However in my 8 + years of riding I have yet to be see a cop who checks the colour of the bike in the RC document during inspection. You probably will need to grease a few palms but if you are getting the thing painted by a trusted mechanic check with them regarding who needs to be contacted in the RTO office. Or you can ask Shaji (who runs Shajis Driving School, on our road diagonally opposite VB court apartments) who needs to be contacted in the RTO office.

Entirely depends on the cop/RTO's mood who is checking out your papers.
Excuse--The thing broke down and i changed it to different color as the said colr wasn't available. It is a temporary fix and i shall get it done the 'yellow streak'

@Neil there are cops who checks the color of the bike in RC book too. I had an '88 model RX100 which was once caught by a cop who checked the RC book for its color. fortunately there was no color specified in the RC book for RX100 and he said "oho, ethinu color onnum paranjittillalle.. LOL"... But now a days i don't find cops catching for the color too, if you need further details pls contact sidharth an xbhp tvm member who have done the ken block edition on his FZ...

@Ranjith which color you are going to do buddy... go for a paint job which no one had done before and as my suggestion is not to go for too much of a contrast one which will make cops to catch you every time when you take your bike out...

@Sheel that's a good excuse you can tell to the cops...

i asked Shaji abt it and guess what his response was?
You dont have to do anything...you can change your color everyday and not care abt changing it in the RC Book

im jst doing a simple Paint job...replacing the Yellows with white!

                          btw @ everyone
is 700-800rs for painting the front mud guard+tank's center portion+air scoops a good deal?

                          thank you

Hi, Ranjith.. here in Tamilnadu there is no any such legal formalities for changing the colours. The cops just question you to find out whether the bike is yours or a theft one. No any issues you may change colour (all the public carriages change their colour once in a year while getting Fitness Certificate), but be sure not to touch the frames because if the frame is painted then while going for a sale the buyer will guess that some thing has happened to your frame.

Cost of the paint what ever may be your negotiation the Painters can match the quality of paint for the price you pay. So always go for DU Point paint which may charge you the double but compared with others the finish will be excellent and will stay shiny for a longer time
