The Canon 100mm f2.8 USM macro lens costs exactly half of that amount. So, less savings required (I got it after a hard, dedicated savings of 6 months or thereabouts!)

Man, that's a HUGE responsibility to shoulder! As much as I would love to justify that tag that you just gave me, I am NO-WHERE near, although I keep trying harder and harder each time. Macro is where my future lies!

Since the topic seems macro, I cannot help but post a few more. Although I have posted it before too (in this thread), but what the heck! Macro NEVER hurts or gets old.

        • Those pics are very .......... revealing! "Sab kuch dikhta hain..."

And since we are on the topic...here's one again from the humble N-85. This is as macro as it can get.

P.S:- It was already dead. Otherwise, I couldn't have gone anywhere close to one of those things.

We look to be satisfied with our humble canon(s) or Nikon(s)..!! wat say bandhav...!!

But, hats off man...those Macros are really toooooooo close to the pollen of the flower..

@ Pranay : Which 'bug' is that
And, considering that to be a mobile cam..the shot looks nice..!!

            • @Inder: Yes, it is expensive by every means. Photography is an expensive hobby to pursue, sadly. I was pretty sure of which lens I want for macro photography even before I had got my hands on the 400D, so it was more or less decided that 100mm is the lens that would fit in my 400D when I would look to shoot some macro or short telephoto pictures.

If you can, do try out the lens, and I kid you not, you would go back home and start saving from the next day!

P.S: I want to get closer. Hence, I tried using the Raynox macro convertor kit, but somehow I didn't quite like it as much as I perhaps wanted to.

I considered the cost of basic SLR too.

All the three shots are amazing, but 1st and 3rd are just WOW (and even this is an understatement).

Bugs seems to the flavour of the hour, so here i go:

Then, increase that budget to 50k+! That's why I got the lens 6-8 months AFTER I got the 400D!

Thanks Bandhav, I am glad you liked the pictures.

The digital camera is no slouch either when it comes to close up/ macro photography. I have been (and I still use) the Canon Powershot S3 IS for macro shots (close up, really) from time to time. Here are some examples of what a digital camera's "macro mode" can do.

These are old pictures clicked atleast a year back!

                  • ^^ Simply amazing. The bee shot and the eye shot are simply too good. Powershot has a very very good macro mode.

It sure is a pretty costly affair all together..!!

But, in addition to what you said abt S3(Being it be 6 M.P only )..i wud its better than any other digicam..and it has a whooping 10x optical zoom..!!

                      • @Pranay/ Inder: Yes, the S3/ S5's 'super macro' mode (especially) is simply amazing! Moreover, in digital camera one doesn't really need to worry about closing down the aperture. Simply open it up at f2.8 and shoot away. No problems of lost focus or anything! Makes the job of shooting macros really easy (relatively speaking, ofcourse).

                        @Inder: S3 = 12x optical zoom buddy.
