Dude kindly dont call 50mm f/1.8 as "cheap" lens ( at least before we Indians)..
Nikkor is going to launch 50mm f/1.4 AF-S (with AF motor) in premium segment, expected price to be $350+.. Wish I get a buyer for my f/1.8 so that I can go for the AF-S version (poor D40 owner I am )..

Amazing lens and is rated as #1 Nikkor lens by ken-rockwell .. Given the specs I believe the canon and sigma versions also gives nearing equal quality like nikkor!
And its evident from the quality pics shared by you and power ..

So better call it a prime lens no matter wat the price is ! ..
I do not know, but I have a 50/1.8 from the film days. On my film camera this was one lens I would use a lot. But once I shifted to a reduced frame DSLR, I find myslef using the 50/1.8 less and less. I seriously doubt if I would get another 50mm. For portraits I preffer the 85mm and above focal lengths on the DSLR and 100mm + on full frame cameras.

For those of you who have a D40 or a D60, try the Sigma 35/1.4 HSM. That has a focus motor built into the lens and is closer to a normal lens on the reduced frame DSLRs.

Here is my comment- Reduce the size of foto bcoz the filthyness of worn out paints are highly visible.

The hanging wire at the bottom is lil distracting. In HDR u shud try to keep away these minute stuff as u may end up clone stamping them.

I have a HDR tutorial but I dunno how to share it.
Thanks SP. I will try to remember if I DARE to do further HDRs in the future!

This is as "close" as the 50mm can get to a tiny subject! Damn, need to get the 100mm f2.8 ASAP!

                      :)
