  • Riding Jackets and Boots

    Hello everyone,

Newbie here, in terms of forum and riding both.

I am looking for new riding gear and need help in choosing between the currently available options.

In terms of jacket, I am confused between the Solace Sabre V4 (priced at INR 10.3k) and the Solace Furious V3 (Priced at INR 12.8k). The Furious is a Touring Jacket and does not have Sliders on shoulders etc. But is a really good fit and comfortable for me.

In terms of Riding boots I have no idea about the specifics, but I wear Knee Guards and hence I was thinking of getting quality trekking boots from Woodland/Wildcraft/Decathlon. Can someone please help out regarding the same, please?

I currently ride on an Interceptor 650.

Any corrections to mistakes I might have made are welcome, so are other suggestions.

For any riding gear, you have to make a trade-off with safety and comfort unless you are willing to spend big money. Jacket - get the one which has good safety but lets you wear the jacket for 10-12 hours. For riding boots, the ones you are looking at are not riding boots and will be next to useless in a crash. Get proper ones (usually priced 8000+) that will truly protect you in case of a crash. At the very least, the boots should cover your ankles and provide enough protection for heel and toe. I use Shima RSX-5 which has worked well and is waterproof too.

In case of a crash, your hands and feet are definitely more vulnerable than your torso and upper body. You can compromise a bit with riding jacket and pants but don't compromise with riding boots & gloves. So, if you have 20k budget, I'd recommend 11-12k on boots and 8-9k on jacket.

If you felt good in Solace and the fitment is also perfect then it will be the best option. Would like to share the gears brands that I have been using since ages. I'm not an adventures rider. For in-city rides, I usually use the Iron Side Textile jacket That I had ordered from Viking cycle, and for boots, I preferred Vented Riding shoes. You can visit them both as well. I'm pretty satisfied and have a good experience with them.
