Re: Scimitar Transition jacket - Review
I visited SPG last sunday to try Icarus and Scimitar. Surprisingly Scimitar was perfect fit for me, I was really satisfied. I wanted to buy it so badly, but then decided to take time to find reviews online before buying. After researching online found people complaining that there is no legit company behind Scimitar. No website, social media presence whatsoever. I'm a bit skeptical now. Would love to hear your thoughts on this.Originally posted by sman999 View PostBefore you think why I chose an unknown jacket let me tell you I tried every possible jacket and nothing fit me. I have an odd measuring.
Jackets I tried
Rjays - xs
Was the lightest of the lot I tried, didn't feel Ohk to me. Xs Still didn't fit me especially shoulder armor.
Spartan all models - s
Helios is the best and costliest, very heavy. The arm adjusters are of no use and the shoulder armors didn't stay because of bad fit. Any model in spartan didn't fit.
Cramster all models - s
Close enough fit, arms were loose and the armor won't stay. The adjusters didn't help.
Shield - s
Didn't like the jacket's design, it is an India make by velavan merchandise, Chennai. At least that's what the store manager said. It was pretty good in terms of quality for 7.2k.
Mototech contour - m
The most favorite jacket of mine among the list. It is made of waxed cotton and mesh. Looks like a casual jacket. But It didn't have velcro strap at the cuff for adjustment, had a flimsy woolen bedsheet like thermal liner. Hard to maintain. Couldn't try size s in it though.
Zeus Arion - s
didn't like the quality of the jacket at all, and didn't fit me anyway.
Scimitar all models - s
The best fit, armors cling on to my bones like anything. I'm thin and just 52kgs. :P
The solus is very light weight jacket and it's for daily city commuting. It can't be used as a touring jacket. Armors are pathetic.
The strike is a Cordura jacket but I wanted a mesh so just ignored it. That too was a perfect fit. Quality was ohk.
Scimitar Transition is the model I chose.
Price: 5449Rs comes with 6 months warranty.
I rode back to Dindugal from Chennai 400kms by night and from Dindugal to Theni 80kms the next afternoon. After the 500kms test ride I didn't feel anything bad about the jacket.
Pros:
# Light weight
# Simple design
# Pakka fit
# Comes with both thermal and rain liner (rain liner is flimsy not tested yet)
# Thermal liner does its job well and has a extra pocket as well
# Standard ykk zippers
# cuff straps, waist straps with velcro for adjustment.
# comes with button adjustment for arms and chest
# CE rated armors
Cons:
# no reflector pipings or of any sort
# Rain liner is flimsy
# back protector is just a foam pad and so needs an upgrade
# no removable collar padding
# no pockets/hook for keys
# only 3 pockets (excluding the one in thermal liner)
# no ear phone jack hole
I did like the design and was looking for reviews. But no reviews were available and people were suggesting to buy tried and tested product for that money. I had no choice when it comes to fit. Didn't really worry about the armors because it can be upgraded. A jacket with low rated armors and perfect fit is better than jacket with high rated armors and loose fit. The only jacket I feel I should have tried is the Adv breed but it was not available in chennai.
Any ways as of now I bought this, I will update with a long term review after 6 months.
Update: I just realized that scimitar doesn't have any warranty whatsoever. Confirmed this with the dealer.
