  • Spartan Helios VS Rynox Tornado Pro

    Note :- This is NOT a paid review or one sided review and is purely based on my usage.

    Hello Friends, I have been using Spartan and Rynox products since a long time. So, i feel that i would be able to give a better insight about both the jackets and help people to choose between them.

    Material:Points: Spartan -->7/10
    Rynox --> 9/10

    Fitting:This is where i love Tornado Pro the most, the moment you wear it you will feel as if you are wearing a race spec jacket where all the armour fits in exactly where they have to be giving you snug fit and comfort at the same time even when you are on the bike or off the bike. The jacket moulds to the body shape and makes you forget that you are wearing an armoured jacket.
    But with the Helios i never had that feeling and it feels a bit weired once am off the bike.

    Points: Spartan -->7/10
    Rynox --> 9/10

    Usability:Though we ride most of the time in city where we need more amount of air flow through the jacket we also need rain liner, thermal liner to use in different seasons and also while touring to keep ourselves dry and warm from the nature. Helios comes only with rain liner which is not that good enough to prevent water from seeping inside under heavy rain situations. Where as Tornado Pro is equipped with rain liner and thermal liner too. Both are detachable and can be used depending on the climate. One more good thing about these liners is they are designed in a way that they can be worn separately too, without a riding jacket (when not riding).
    One better thing about Tornado Pro here is that under mild or drizzling situations even if one is not wearing liner there is very less possibility of getting wet, considering the mesh size and the thickness of the jacket.

    Points: Spartan --> 5
    Rynox --> 8

    Styling:We all know that wearing riding jacket makes us one looks standout from the crowd so the styling is also given importance in this review. Both the jackets come in different colour combinations and give a good appeal. Helios as well as Tornado Pro jackets have been designed keeping style along with safety into consideration.

    Points: Spartan -->8/10
    Rynox --> 8/10

    Comfort:Apart from protecting the rider from natural elements and proving safety incase of an accident, a jacket should also provide comfort as the jackets are worn for a number of hours and days while touring. I give my vote to Tornado Pro here than Helios as i use these jackets regularly and found Tornado Pro to be more comfortable than Helios These jackets are not like regular garments where we should wash them once they are dirty, infact these jackets are madeup of materials that can withstand dirt and sweat without leaving odour and both these jackets fare well in this regard.

    Points: Spartan --> 9/10
    Rynox --> 9/10

    Armour:Both the jackets come with KNOX Flexi form armours at shoulders and elbows.The Spartan Jacket comes with a Dual-Density Back Armor by default while the Tornado Pro comes with a CE approved Back Protector.

    But Spartan offers even the back protector upgradable under optional to KNOX armour which is quite good, however this comes at an additional cost.

    Points:Warranty:Let me tell you a small story that happened with me:I had the first batch of Helios jacket when i bought mine and it had a lot of glitches ( not defects) the cordura material on the impact area got torn off due to the rubbing of the Velcro onto it and also there were some loose stitches inside the jacket and these things came into picture after i used the jacket for 3 months, when i have sent the jacket for repair Spartan people blamed me saying that i misused the jacket and that resulted in it and they refused to replace the jacket with a new one but later they insisted me to get a new one saying that my jacket is not safe to use and they offered me some discount on the new one in exchange with the old one and i went ahead with it.
    With Rynox i had a problem with their gloves and there kind enough to replace them and when the replaced product also has a problem they have returned back my money without having to ask them another question. This is how commitment should be and this is what customers expect from a company.
    When we are buying some product which is specially meant for safety I feel that the warranty policies should be very clear and they should always satisfy customer instead of blaming customers and refusing to replace their products.

    Points: Spartan--> 4/10
    Rynox--> 9/10

    Pricing: This is what looks into when spending their hard earned money. One needs features, safety, comfort, Durability at an affordable price and this is where Rynox Tornado Pro shines with a price tag of Rs 7099/- and at this price point it comes with features like Dual Detachable Multi Climate Liner. Detachable Liner 1: Reissa water-proofing which is also breathable membrane to reduce fatigue, Detachable Liner 2: Warm insulation liner which comes in full length and heat stitched. Compared to Spartan Helios whose price tag is Rs 7799/-

    Finally, Spartan scores 55 (+2)* points where as Rynox scores 66.5 and stands as a winner.

        Even I use the Tornado pro and pretty happy with it.

        The one drawback i have found so far is that the arm adjuster buttons are stitched in the mess and starts coming out after few months. Just contacted Rynox about the issue, hope the solve this issue.

            Even I find it as a major problem. My friend had to restitch it on the 2nd day itself. I am extra careful while handling it, so it hasnt come out till now on mine.

                  Hello everyone!
                  Picked a Rynox Tornado Pro today from Orion Motors, Bangalore.
                  Shame i did not see the review previously. The review clearly highlights the main pros and cons.
                  One point which is missed out is Helios provides 2 inner pockets on the front for Mobile and one for sunglasses.
                  Thanks for the review, hope this will help many. Attaching a pic of my combination :P

                    Congrats on your purchase. By the way Trust me you are not missing out on much by missing one extra pocket for sunglasses. You have got an extra liner and better back protector and much durable product overall given the material that's used.

                        Hi,
                        How comfortable this jacket for present Bangalore summer?
                        planning to buy one but confused between this and Aspida Helios Prime(feels more comfortable in summers).
                        Thanks in advance.

                          Hi,
                          It is a good jacket. It has a denser material so yeah in standing traffic its gonna be hot no matter which jacket you buy. And you probably know how hot has Bangalore become suddenly. The jacket is comfortable to wear and does tick all the right boxes. I had issues with it so i returned 2 of them. Probably gonna end up buying one more. My suggestion is to buy directly from the company. They'll have new stock in a week or so.
                          Coming to helios prime, it doesn't have a rain liner at all. So i would ask you to give it a miss. You can also check TBG ADV and Solace Defender.
                          Regards

                              Hey guys.

                              I wanted to know if the solace defender is a worthy competitor to the Rynox tornado pro? or any other brand of jacket.
                              Im mainly looking for a riding jacket that has the best ventilation and keeps me pretty dry during heavy downpours.Both have pretty good protection and features but since im on a tight budget the defender seems preferable. should i really stretch for the Rynox?

                              Also im not considering the rynox air gt or the solace sprint,even though they are much cheaper ,due to the fact they dont have the so called better waterproofing REISSA liner unless its proven otherwise.
                              Does the REISSA liner allow you to completely replace a dedicated rain coat or will i have to buy one? If This REISSA liner isnt good at keeping me dry then ill go for the cheaper air gt/sprint and buy a rain coat.

                              I am open to other brands also but cannot cross more than 7k for a jacket with the above main proirities.
                              Also has the price of the rynox tornado gone up? couple of months back i saw them retailing for 7k
