  • ViaTerra motorcycle bags for adventure trip. Claw, Oxus, Compression bag and Rolltop Bags

This is a genuine review of my complete luggage system that came from Viaterra Gears for my recent ride of 7396 KM's in 24 days. The ride was from Bangalore to Nepal, Bhutan and back.

The bags used are Viaterra Claw Tail bag, Viaterra Oxus Tank bag, Viaterra Compression bag (M Size) and Viaterra Rolltop Bags ( Set of 3)

In long distance riding luggage is something which is very important part of your ride. I remember my travel earlier when I used to have one saddle bag or at times tail bag and everything inside was a mystery to find. I would end up taking out half of the stuff before I could find the needed thing. Luckily now as the Indian companies are expanding we are getting the products in India at cheaper prices compared to times when importing was the only option. Now we can manage our luggage much better. It's high time to say bye bye to blue, orange and yellow tarpaulin and travel organised. Helps you save time and effort in packing and unpacking. Also gives you confidence during ride.

    Viaterra Claw

The reason of choosing this bag was that this one bag could take it all inside in minimum space which meant no saddle bag for which otherwise I would have to make metal frame. As I was going for adventure riding I didnt wanted things hanging around and falling.
Claw is a 55L multilayer Tail bag with super strong stitches. Some extra space coming down on side makes it slightly like c shape. The straps makes sure that protruding sides stay on and around your pillion seat. The best part of bag according to me is the inner liner (Optional, can be brought seperately) that keeps everything safe from all the dirty water and slush that is splashed over it. External pockets keep my rain liners and can accommodate 6L fuel for quick access or may be a chain spray replacing 1 L fuel. It holds my tent and sleeping bag inside too. There are two external straps that help in maintaing the integrity of the bag, can be also used to attach another bag or sleeping mat on it. 4 D buckles give you more freedom of attaching stuff to bag. The bag came with an external liner too which makes sure it's not drenched in water during rain. Mounting hardly takes 3 mins. Quality of product is very good. For sure one of the best bags if you travel without pillion.
    Cons.
    - All the straps to hold are at lower points. This makes bag lean towards rider and would take support with riders back. It is something which is expected and is common in many tail bags if don't strap them around. I use a Btwin cycle holding strap from Decathlon. Pair costs 600 and is as important as bungee on motorcycle trip. This completes solves the issue.
    - The side pockets have single buckle to close the short flap leaving top sides of pocket open. If 1 L bottles are stored inside, they stay tight but 500 ml spray fell of from the gap while I was riding hard in Mustang, Nepal. Wouldn't happen on highway until you don't get thrown of on any hump.

    Viaterra Oxus Tank Bag

It substituted my backpack for betterment. Keeps in all essentials handy including my hydration pack bladder. It helped me navigate using phone pocket as I had damaged my phone mount. The size is right at threshold and does not constraint handle bar movement. It has multiple pockets to arrange stuff. Mounting is a strap around headstock and one bungee cord with hook on each side to mount it to frame. Fuelling is breeze with just one quick release buckle around headstock. Comes with external rain liner. Also has a removable strap to make it side bag and carry it around.

So now the bags that helped me organise my stuff.

    Viaterra Compression Bag. (M Size)

As said by Viaterra is a no non sense bag. I used it for keeping all my fresh clothes. The compression makes sure that space is minimised at the same time clothes ain't crushed. As the clothes are used each day the size of the bag can be changed using compression straps. Incase on the trip you desire to buy stuff the bag can move out of tail bag giving you huge extra space. I bought Koka and Mama noodles from Bhutan The mounting is done using bungee net or cord.
Cons- It's not a dry bag so incase it rains when you have moved it out of tail bag you need find a rain cover which doesn't come with bag.

Viaterra Rolltop Bags (Set of 3)

The most part of bags are made of mesh keeping the stuff inside open to air. I used L size for soiled clothes M size for Inner wear and S size for toiletries. Each size comes in different colour making it easy for you to identify them when they are into main luggage.
