  • Solace Passion - A short glove - Comprehensive Review

    Hello bikers !

So, I thought of buying a short glove for mostly city use and convenience. The first pointer meant I wanted a short cuff glove and so I fixed my budget at INR 2000. The research started and I zeroed down to 3 popular gloves.

    • Reflective piping on front for better visibility for night rides
    • Accordion fabric placements at Fingers to decrease Fatigue

    • Foam insertion with additional material at palm for palm protection
    • Adjustable Velcro patch at cuff for better fit

    Second - Solace Passion

    My views

    Rynox -
Seems good but no mention of waterproofing. Atleast they should have mentioned if it is waterproof or not even though my criteria had nothing to do with it. No mention of leather quality, thickness either. Pre-curved glove is a good nifty feature. No good palm protection. But fine not too bad. Nothing more interesting worth a note.

Solace - Clearly says not waterproof ! Ok good. Many sites mention 0.8mm leather but the solace site does not really advertise it. These are pre curved too ! Great. Schoeller Keprotec on palms in this price is wow. I had to google what it really is and here is what I found https://www.schoeller-textiles.com/e...eller-keprotec. So it was designed for motorcycle racing and is highly abrasion and tear resistant and comfy. Great ! Carbon Fiber knuckles, very sceptical of that but fine as long as they work (guess they meant CF finish). The palm portion on these gloves was exceptionally better than rynox.

Cramster - Perforated leather is a total great thing to have. The construction is all leather and very nice. Palm portion is not as good as Solace but better than Rynox. Not pre curved so not good for my usage as comfort was important factor.

    My rankings -

Solace and Cramster were kept on list. Rynox was a no brainer as I wanted maximum VFM in my budget. Went with Solace at last given the overall better feel and protection on palm region. I enquired to a few people online and on instagram to be sure and I talked to a guy on insta who has been using Solace for over 40k kilometres ! Mighty impressed !

    My review after use -

So, I went on and ordered Solace gloves. Used them for 8-9k kilometres and also used them in my recent 2 days 1200kms trip from Kumaun to Garhwal region of Uttarakhand. I basically belong to Nainital in Kumaun, a hill station and a cold area if you might not know.

The gloves were tight at first and after break-in, felt as good as bare hands. Felt very safe and the ventilation is abundant, the grip on bars is very good and no lack of control was observed by me in all these kms. The reflective piping is an additional safety feature. There is also a pouch under the piping region of the gloves. Never found a use to it but well can be used to keep a triple A battery wrapped in aluminium foil to keep my hands warm.

I wear them everyday for my daily commute of 100-120kms on the Nainital road twisties now for the sheer convenience and safety they offer, all at once. Highly value for money product in my opinion. No issues in the gloves as of now noted.
PS A tip for all of you losing one of your gloves here and there Just keep a glove up and the other upside down and stick the velcro of one to another, thus not losing one of them atleast.

For me, I am content and more than happy with the gloves and sheer value for money they provide. Would recommend others to have a look if what you want is a short glove under 2000 for daily use.

And I am in no way related to any of these brands, just a regular customer. You can PM me for any questions regarding the gloves.

This is Parth signing off, have a good day bikers ! Attaching pictures in replies later.

They are totally drenched in rainwater right now. Just returned home and its raining heavily here. Attaching pics of wet gloves.
The gloves. You can see ventilation, knucle guard and the reflective piping.

Here you may be able to notice the palm protection. It was my reason to pick these gloves.

I think this is the Schoeller Keprotec region. This material is very grippy and tear resistant.

Leather and foam palm protection. Very good !

Nice review, thanks! Is the index finger touch-enabled?

None of them are touch enabled, just buy a 10cm touch thread and sew it round the finger if you like. Also, sometimes they work with touch screens, guess it has to do something with moisture.
          Cheers !

The finger must be in contact with these 'touch' threads to pass electricity through them to the touch screen. Capacitive touch works due to the conductive nature of human skin. When we touch a capacitive screen, there is a variation in the screen's electrical field which is recognized as an input. So IMHO, sewing a touch thread over the existing finger of a glove will not work.

There are gloves in Alpine star and other brands where this feature is added to the index fingers of the glove.

True, but what I meant is sewing it inside out so it touches your finger and the screen of your phone too. The gloves should be snug fit for this to work which mine are. Touch works in cold weather here maybe because of moisture but they are not touch type.
Many gloves of a little higher value like 2400 rupees have touch support.
As I told above, no touch support on these gloves.
              Cheers !
