  • Mid-budget Waterproof Gloves

Hi all! I presently use the Cramster Flux for my city rides & the Rynox Shield Pro for longish rides - both of which are not usable in the rains. With the monsoons in full swing now, I was on the hunt for good waterproof riding gloves that are in a medium budget range, around Rs. 3000/- to be precise.

Here are the options I've found so far within budget I'd mentioned:

    1. Spartan ProGear has a product in it's Aspida series: the Poseidon, priced at Rs.2950/-

    2. Solace Striker is available at Rs.2599/- (on RidingKart website)

Kind of surprised that Rynox & Cramster doesn't have any waterproof gloves in it's product listings. Anyway, could anyone please suggest other options that I could consider and most importantly, lend some personal feedback after using the products?

    Thanks in Advance!

Cramster has a few gloves but they do not look impressive to me. The tundra, I guess is water resistant, not waterproof.

Rohan in my group is using Solace and a few other guys too, it's a nice glove, the only thing is that inside has a liner, so if you get to fill water in the inner layer somehow, it takes little more time to dry, not as much as a leather glove.

The gloves are pretty good and I would recommend you to buy.

I am personally looking at Shima too, though they are more than twice the price, so still considering and may zero down to solace myself.

        Thanks for the inputs.

Cramster’s site doesn’t list any of its gloves as water resistant/proof. Didn’t want to experiment with them for the cost.

The fact that you’ve mentioned a couple of your buddies have been using the Solace and are okay with them is good feedback about the product. Actual user opinions are what count.

Read a review yesterday of the Aspida Poseidon in another forum wherein it was mentioned that after a few weeks of usage the stitching started coming out in a few places. Not news that one can ignore for the pricing.

I’m guessing that the Solace ones are perhaps better lasting since your friends haven’t mentioned any negative points as above.

I provided you the contact, best to contact him once and know the product in detail.

And yes I agree, more than specs, user feedback matters.
          Goodluck bro.

Will definitely talk to your contact before making the purchase. Thanks a ton for that!

I hope to put up my personal opinion here about the glove after some usage.

They are a blind copy of Solace ones, while solace ones have been updated now.
I would say if you have the budget, get Shima. Else get Solace or Raida.

To pick up where the discussion had left off, I bought Raida’s winter & waterproof gloves. This purchase was long overdue.

Will get a chance to test them in a week’s time as I’ve registered for RE’s Escapade South event up in the hills of Wayanad. Pretty sure that besides the chill of the forests by night, a few showers will be there too.

But I’d say for the price, the gloves are very well put together. The fit is perfect and hopefully durability wise, they’ll last too.

Do post a detailed review of the gloves and a comparison with Solace Striker. I am also in search of weatherproof gloves that can withstand condensation and freezing temperatures.

I have been riding below zero since few days and own both striker (old variant, new will be better), and RainX.

Both the gloves handle the worst terrains very well, but things start to get out of hands once the temperature drops below minus 4 degrees. There is windchill and the gloves feel cold.

I started to use undergloves from Decathlon to solve this and they really work.

Also, if riding under minus 15 or minus 20 degrees, the material on the gloves may face hardening-up. This will be common across all things, even the motorcycle crash guards will be prone to cracking, not a defect, but I felt it important to be mentioned.

Both work well for me. Solace does offer better in terms of covering the wrist and being a little more warmer than Raida (the leather on raida is a little more conductive to heat/cold, natural property). You won't notice this difference until you go below 0 degrees.

Raida does offer better in terms of being a leather shell and looking much better too.

Do remember that my experience is with the old striker gloves and the raida rainX, yet to try the new striker, heard they are improved.

                        Mid-budget Waterproof Gloves

I’d like to to add my findings on the Raida RainX in-line with what Parth has mentioned above: I just completed the Royal Enfield Escapade South 2018 that took me through Ooty to Wayanad forests. Had to ride during the wee hours of the morning & late night while returning through these hill station roads.

The ambient temperatures were in the range of 8-10 degrees but the wind chill while riding made the cold feel harsher.

While RainX might be good as waterproof gloves with really great build quality, they don’t help as an option for warm gloves - you’ll find the cold seeping in just after half hour of riding.

The RainX is not the ones to go for if the temperatures will drop to less than 18-15 degrees while riding long distances is what I’ve figured out.

The undergloves from Decathlon sounds like a good idea, though I’ll have to wait up till my new pair of RainX softens up a little.
