  • Looking for Good Riding Jacket, Pants, Helmet - First Timer

    Greetings

This is my first thread on mighty XBHP Forum. Apologize if I am miss something and go out of thread Rules.
I request Moderators to please merge this with some similar thread if I am on inappropriate section, I searched several forums for my quires but information is scattered everywhere.

I am looking for good riding jacket to start my riding adventure. I am searching google for the same past few days and found RYNOX Tornado L2 jacket to be suitable, Though I have never ever touched any kind of riding jacket, gloves or even DOT approved basic helmets so I really have no idea WHAT to look for when purchasing Jackets/ Gears.

So, I live in New Delhi, really love to ride my Discover 135 DTSi bike everyday. I have already done several long rides upto 700 kms in a day, always in extreme whether condition (-5 to 47 °C) using Steelbird Adonis Helmet, Decathlon warm gloves, skiing pants, and regular warm Jackets, Balcava, Woodland boots. Now I feel to have proper gears for safety with my increasing interest in long bike rides.

In winters, Highways to Himachal, J&K here get full of extreme dense fog lowering the visibility (Hardly 5m) but also causing hell lot of water condensation on bike, helmet, visor with pinlock, gloves, luggage and almost everything while riding and penetrating fog. So I seriously need full WATER-PROOF jacket and pants to overcome this condensation, also to keep me warm in Sub-zero temperatures. No special requirement for summer rides around desert and dry area of Rajasthan.

Is Rynox Tornado jacket and Rynox Advento Pants worth to keep me dry and warm in extreme winters? I am 5'6", weigh ~65 kgs with average build and would avoid Baggie appearance of gears. - INR 16k
For Helmet, I have shortlisted MT Revenge with Pinlock visor Or Thunder 3 - INR 9.5K
Luggage Tank bag -- GODS Zeon R2 (to hold heavy 340g phone) - INR 1.55K
Gloves- Old Decathlon Gloves- They are warm and works for me. - INR 0

I will be going to Mumbai next week and would like to purchase all these items from AH Helmet so that I can physically check for size and quality.
    Budget is 30K max.

Are there anything better in this price range? Or something you guys can recommend.
I am getting confused while comparing jackets from Rynox, Brotherhood, Cramster, Aspida, Scimitar, etc brands. Also, I will be using these gears for next 5-6 years, or until they tear apart themselves. I will be buying RE Continental GT 650 once it gets green signal from RE customers, already purchased a Continental GT 535 but had to return it to RE for Delhi NCR registration Failure. Currently 10 year old Bajaj Discover 135s fulfill my needs, Proven Its quality and reliability, loves to cruise at 90kmph (goes upto 115 on speedo) all day.

Try spartan pro gear website, they have sale going on 3 of their jackets, if you don't wish to then go for aspida neimise jacket

Hey hi Toshar, if you are looking for gears try to visit Wroom Store at Airoli, Navi Mumbai. They have wide range of rynox as well as spartan gears. You also check out MT helmets over there. The bonus part over there is they have a good riding experience (They are couple riders husband wife, riding their individual bikes) and can suggest you according to your requirement. Who can contact them through FB to get more details about your requirement. My personal experience was amazing over there when I visited last month.
Hope you get the best product, ride safe be happy #peace.

        Thank You.[emoji4]

I am using Rynox Tornado Pro jacket and Advento pants for last 15k kms and they still holding very well. I have used them in MH and down south on multiple rides and they are comfortable for both winters and summers here. Never been to the north but I guess with a fleece/ski base layer and the provided winter liner, you should be good in the north winters. Regarding quality, comfort and durability, definitely go for these, eyes closed.

Advento Riding pants (7850inr)- excellent in terms of safety, however you may get the baggy appearance. I tried it personally and didnt find it comfortable, but probably because i am pretty lean. i ended up getting the airtex, 6450inr.

Tornado pro is an excellent jacket, alongwith the thermal liner it should do its job. The temperature ranges you mentioned, my advice would be to get a textile jacket instead of mesh and use the thermal liner whenever necessary. Check the rynox website for the various models they have.

Helmet - thunder 3 is probably 6250inr, and an additional 1700 for pinlock, i could be wrong. Also look at proklear spray for antifogging. I have personally tried it and it works.

Tankbag - Gods, excellent product and gets the job done, wallet, keys and plenty of other stuffs can be kept, and the included rain cover provides adequate protection.

In navi mumbai, try vroom store, have heard good reviews.

            best of luck.

Would recommend a touring jacket like RE Safari in 7500. It comes with level 2 armours and is totally worth it. No point going for a mesh jacket in such cases. I own both touring and mesh jackets and I am from Uttarakhand. Mostly cold and foggy here. I personally use a Raida Tourbine mesh jacket and a Solace Furious touring jacket. (40000kms already done on the touring one)

Pants I would recommend Solace Coolmesh, using them since 15k kms, level 2 armours and no competition in that price range. Will cost you ₹7600.

Would not recommend MT in that budget, instead get LS2 FF323 or ScorpionEXO 390 or HJC CL17. Scorpion comes with Everclear antifog visor and also supports pinlock. Price is under 8k for flat colours.

              Hope this helps !

Visit Wroom Store, owner is rider Sachin Desai. He is also on xbhp. I bought MT Muggello, its awesome. One thing I noticed about inner padding is when tou keep the helmet to rest for 5-10 days, they get back to the original shape (feels tight again) its good.

So many recommendation for VROOM store of mumbai. Thank You every one for the much needed advice. I was looking for gears for my winter trip that I suppose to start next week but eventually got a job and joining is also next week. My budget was already bottle necked so I thought to wait for a salary and then proceed as the ride is postponed for now. I ended up buying MT Revenge helmet for its sharp rating. The helmet is very good with noise isolation and feel premium, and now I am looking for best music wired headset for helmet. I tried some available intercoms but all of them lacks bass or volumes, they are purely for communication purpose whereas I am a regular user of Beats or skullcandies earphones. There is no way I can keep them plugged in my ears with MT helmet because of snug fit and they come out of ears easily.
So I have opted for Uclear Pulse wired drop in helmet headset. I can make it wireless anyday with help of BT adapter but again it will reduce music quality. I ride solo so I am not looking for intercom devices. Please let me know if something with earphones level quality is available in India that can be used with helmet. Wired or Wireless both will work.

The Pulse plugs into many helmet communication systems, audio devices or Smartphones with a standard gold plated 3.5mm stereo audio jack.

Review- I was about to leave for a winter ride and couldn't purchase proper riding pants so ended up buying there from decathlon for 2k. It was December 28th Night 2017, around 4 degree Celsius with extreme extreme fog on NH1, constant speed of 75-95kmph from 2am to 10am. I had a regular amul fleece thermal, sweater and a jacket on torso which failed to kept me warm so I fixed a newspaper inside me jacket from chest to belly. But on legs, a decathlon fleece and these ski pants worked like magic. Not even a hint of chil and they kept me warm for whole ride. There was 100% water condensation from fog on helmet, gloves and everything but this thing is pure warm and waterproof. It came with very baggy appearance so after a weak I cleaned it with a wet towel and returned for full refund - Good things with decathlon store anywhere.

For the same ride, they didn't kept my hands warm but nor my hands were feeling cold. They too are waterproof but I don't know why but inner linings are not cozy. My hands got sweaty and they I started feeling the chill, still things were very much under control. I heard that rarely gloves provide superior warmth as Human hands are not designed to produce usefull heat if remain stable on handle bar for long durations. These gloves are good for their budget, provide thermal insulation in city but on highway rides, invest your money somewhere else that are purely made for the purpose. Though some riders use hands fleece along with gloves for proper thermal insulation.
Here;s the fleece for Rs.99 which can be worn under main gloves if size permits https://www.decathlon.in/p/8369958_f.../3147-515-xs_s

                    Jacket --
I was wearing a Jack&jones jacket which is alone extremely enough to tackle sub zero temperatures but it was not waterproof which made it not suitable for rides in fog. Similar jackets can be purchased from Woodland or wildcraft, whatever suits your taste. All those down jackets are more or less same and within a budget of 5k, they provide full insulation. For decathlon, I bought my dad a jacket for 3.5k from the store for which he says is extremely good, He travels on weekend on subzero temp. areas and finds it more then enough for his travel. No idea how they will perform on bike rides, so can;t say. Riders prefer textile riding jackets from solace for winter rides.

Balcava from same store to protect ears and a muffler to protect neck from windblast which is very much neccessary. Both purchased from Decath for very cheap, I guess 199 or so.

You can go to decathlon store and try different jackets for your need.

                    Hope I helped.
