  • Beginner Accessories

    Hi,
I'm new to biking, just clocked 5,000kms. I wish to know the accessories I've been missing. To me long drives are 600kms at a strech. So, suggest me some beginner accessories (Rider's Jacket, Intercom, Action Cam, Gloves, Tank Bag, Boots, Saddle Bag) based on your experience. Just for your knowledge I ride a Duke 250. I'm also giving a thought of fixing windshield. Suggest me some good automobiles shop in Chennai if you know any.

I know I'm asking for a lot. But, Thanks for your time.

It would be very helpful if you could provide a budget or spending range for same.

I would recommend starting with the jacket, gloves, pants and boots.

Thereafter go for tank bag, and then the camera and saddle bags follow.

Here are a few of my recommendations. Also please feel free to ask me a 'why' on anything.

Jacket - Solace Rival L2 / Rynox Air GT3 (both come with protectors from Safe-Tech, approved to CE level 2, on shoulder, elbow and back) Very trustworthy, infact there are only a few brands that sell gear with quality protectors in Indian market. Rynox, Solace, Raida, that's it. Price under ₹6500.

Pants - You can buy knee guards, but I feel pants are much, much safer, and the safety of rider is much above accessories like camera, saddle bags etc.
Recommended pants - Rynox Storm - CE level 1 on knee, foam on hip for under 7k.
Solace Tourjet - Ce level 2 on knee and hip. again under 7k. Both the pants have branded and known protectors.

Gloves - Cramster flux / Rynox Scout - Under 2k
Viaterra Holeshot - under 3k, has scaphoid protection sliders from knox.

Boots - You can start with any safety boots. Remember they are not as safe as proper riding boots but will save you some money while buying, which you might end up spending if you get to the point of a meeting with the doctor. Orazo is a safety boot example. Riding boots, look at ones from RE (if you can find someone who bought a new RE, they get 25% off code) and Shima RSX5. Also look at Solace Threshold boots if you can find them somewhere.

All this comes to 25k in itself.

Tank bags - Rynox Magnapod / Solace Rigid are the current two best bags.

Saddle bags - If not riding with a pillion, go for a tail bag, Rynox Grab is good, I personally use Rynox Trail bag 2, since it is waterproof and solves my purpose. I prefer travelling light.

Cameras - Yi 4k on amazon for 9999, or else Firefly 8s / 8se. If you can spend, get a GoPro.

          Goodluck.

Thanks bro. Your answer really saved me days of google search. Gonna start with the Jacket. And about intercom, do you have any suggestion ? Do you find it useful, also share your experience in using it if any.

Look for Vnet6 or Vnet8 as an affordable intercom. A lot of friends are using the same, although I don't find it useful for me, I am the person who hums and sings while riding.

I am a Bullet 500 rider and want to buy a riding jacket for the first time .
I am confused whether I should buy a proper touring jacket once and for all or should I buy a mesh jacket like Rynox Air GT3
Touring jacket I’m looking at is Rynox Stealth Evo 3
                Godspeed.

                  Hi,

In my opinion you should go for a good biker accessories. In my beginning days I got to know about High Note Performance and from there i purchased all my accessories. From that day I always buy all my accessories from them only. In terms of quality they give best out of it.

According to me before you purchase you should check their website and gather all information about the products you want.

                  Thank you

In beginning, you should try to go on short in-city tours and Mesh Jacket is perfect for that. After six months you should go to gearing suits for longer routes. Make sure to buy the jackets from a good brand, I usually go to Viking Cycle and Moto Chap. I have a great experience with both of them, their products are affordable and more durable than other local brands.
