Superlike the last part on that future banned rider.

They are using Shell Engine Oil. Its regular oil, not the synthetic type. And Engine oil change interval as per manual is 12000kms, but i just spoke to the service rep and he said that they will be changing the oil every 6000kms given the riding conditions in India.

As for the ride to Lonavala update, i think this forum would be a good launch pad to vent out the ire after 2 hours of back seat driving, so, even i am looking forward to posting the update on that ride.

Dude, i wouldnt even want to be caught dead with that Mod on my bike, rather take it to the cleaners on a daily basis. U can definitely have the last laugh and to keep you company i'll join in...... Muhahahahahahahaha.

Second that! I totally wanted the Black ER6N or blue 2013 but could not wait another x years before Kawasaki/Bajaj bring it here so got one when i can. The new colour scheme is superb and i love the new decal work with the Kawasaki sticker at the bottom, I am planning on gettig that done on my bilke will also change the second cutout to black on the fairing when the part becomes available.

Looking at the cost, looks like they used semi-synthetic oil? Can you confirm?

Good luck with the saving, you may get the bike sooner than expected. As for the latter part, I am not an expert on bikes honestly speaking. I enjoy twisting the throttle and getting a smile across my face. For me comfort and riding position is paramount when riding. A supersport with its sporty position, can be really tiring in the city. but on a track, its in a world of its own. The Ninja has a rather upright seating position when compared to a out and out sports bike. I think i would leave the corelation of the rpms and wheelbases to the experts. Though i can vouch for the Ninja being a good highway bike.


Hey Santoosh, Thanks dude. Now i figured out what happened to the coolant. I will be keeping an eye out for the level regularly.
As for the oil, the manual too states 1.8 litres with filter removed. During engine overhaul its 2.3 litres. And i can confirm that oil change interval as per service manual is 12000kms, even the tabulated service history clearly states oil change every alternate service interval. Though, as u mentioned, it may be a good idea to get it changed at every service atleast.
I too was a bit taken aback when the service rep told me to expect a bill of 2500. At the dealership when i spoke to the sales guys they said that the first service would be 3500 + consumables. So all in all a pleasant surprise.


Thanks icemang. Given your taste in bikes(read T Bonnie), i think it would be worthwhile to wait for its launch before u decide on signing the dotted line. A classic redefined - the Bonnie. Now only if Triumph would pull its socks up and make the bikes available. I know a lot of people who are waitin for the bonnie to be launched.

A ride to lonavla and back with wifey is coming up the weekend after next, so will post a review on back seat comfort as well as the ills of back seat driving

I have yet to book this bike because I still waiting for the T Bonnie; it suits my tastes in biking more.

Please do post comments about long rides i.e.>400kms or so. My wife and I are waiting for the next bike after the CBR 250 and if your wife's views of pillion comfort are encouraging, then I might shift to the N650.

and coolant evaporates if ridden at v low speeds , the cooling in city is not v effective on the ninja in thick traffic ,
Fan kicks in within 2-3 kms of 1-2-3 gear riding

Qn. oly 2 litres oil?
ANd interval of 12000 kms change is too good to be true..Check again ,
Which 2 litre oil will last that long?
I suggest u change it at 4k-5k interval.

And 1200 labour costs is v less .
Hysoung labour cost of general service is 2000.
Oil is 3.4 L
Change interval is 4000 kms.

But bro since i got a habit of noting down the specifications of all the bikes in indian market. i was a bit worried with the RPM of the Ninja 650. Do u think more Rpm means a good highway or tourer bike. i was comparing it with the Daytona (yet to be launched) it has a rpm of 12600 & 11700 although the wheelbase is a bit smaller than Ninja 650. Does low RPM mean its more of a street fighter?

Nice job with the modded pics. Well as for the 2013 ninja, i think it will be a while before they launch that here. The sales guys were of the opinion that the KTM 690 should be coming next, appox 6 months after the launch of the 2012 Ninja. and if that holds good then the 2013 Ninja should be launched in a years time from now.
On a related note, i was game for the red, but they never launched that colour here.

Hey Bharat, The 650 is taller, and the seating is slightly more inclined than the FZ, but not uncomfortably so. Infact after a week on the 650, i switched to the FZ and it felt puny in every respect.
I am using speed 93 as recommended by the service guys. The manual says 91 Octane and above, so one can fill regular fuel in the cities as all are rated as 91octane(but if any adulteration is done, then the octane number of the fuel is anyones guess)

Yes the rear fender is tooo short and i think the front one is same as well. Well one my fav. time pass is modifying bikes on Microsoft Paint . Posting some pics where some modifications at the rear end. And the blue is my baby, if they ever bring 2013 ABS models in india . if they bring it i swear to god i am going to sell my 'CBR' and buy it straight away.
