My previous bike (Yamaha FZ25 ABS) although good always left me with a feeling that something was missing....this changed when I first tried my friend's RE Himalayan in 2020. It was just the right fit for me somehow and I felt a sense of belonging.
My purchase was eventually delayed due to the pandemic and thankfully the Scram 411 was a blessing as it was more compatible for me from a seat height and weight perspective (I’m 5’4” and weigh 56kgs).
Booking experience - I booked the Graphite Red version from the Worli (Mumbai First) showroom on May 26, 2022 and the customer support along with query resolution wrt bike accessories/insurance/payment was spotless. A delivery estimation of 1 month was communicated but luckily my bike was available for delivery within 2 weeks which was actually unexpected given that RE is known for long wait periods.
Delivery - June 8, 2022 The staff explained all the paperwork to be done beforehand and answered all my questions with clarity. I asked to do a Pre-delivery Inspection (Advising everyone to do so too before taking delivery) and upon full satisfaction signed the documents and took delivery.
Post-delivery - I felt a drastic difference in the test ride bike i drove at RE and the new delivered one, which i had never experienced in Yamahas before and now actually understood what the break-in period meant.
For the first week, my rides were focused on city commutes anywhere between 20-30kms per day in Mumbai and quickly felt the mild engine heat on my legs, especially in bumper-to-bumper traffic. For me, the bike weight was a big change and did feel some stress on my knees and thighs for a couple of days but quickly got used to it. The ergonomics are such that rides are very comfortable even on Mumbai roads I’m enjoying the daily commutes so much that I’m actually leaving early for the office out of all the excitement.
I travel frequently between Mumbai-Pune on the bike and the Scram 411 just put a damn big smile on my face when i undertook this commute within 9 days of purchase. The Yamahas used to make me a bit tired in my bones but with this i felt i could manage some more without breaking a sweat.
My travel to Pune was fantastic and uneventful but by the time i planned to be back to Mumbai the rains had arrived. It’s always a treat of travel on the NH4 as over the years the roads have always been excellent and the nature is just beautiful. Rains wreaked havoc in Lonavala and surrounding areas but the Scram 411’s performance just made me love it more.
My short stint ushered a prompt from the Scram 411’s console for the first service with the blinking spanner.
Service experience - Went to the RE service center early morning around 9 am without an appointment and was greeted with smiling faces. The experience was good overall and i was told what all would be changed/checked during this first service and an estimate on the cost.
Post-service experience - The bike looked brand new when i was handed the keys and felt different as well. The clutch was set better, gears became freer, breaks were tighter (although they do still feel spongy), and the engine felt smoother.
As i go back home a happy lad, my mind wanders to the next trip i plan with this companion to new places unexplored.
