My Kawasaki ZX6R Ownership Story – A Dream 16 Years in the Making

Warning : Long post Ahead !

Ever since my childhood, I’ve been fascinated by big bikes. I still remember the first time I saw a Yamaha R1 back in 2009 — it looked massive. Larger than anything I’d ever seen on two wheels. That day, something clicked inside me. I fell in love with fully faired sportbikes — machines that looked fast even while standing still.

But those bikes were way beyond my budget back then, and I was too young to even dream seriously about them.

Fast forward to my college days — I remember spotting a green motorcycle for the first time. I didn’t even know what it was, but it had a presence. Later, in 2013, the Kawasaki Ninja 300 was launched — and I realized that was the very bike I had seen. I was fascinated. I dreamt of owning one someday, but affording a ₹4L+ bike wasn’t even remotely possible at that time.

In 2016, I bought a Yamaha YZF R15 V2, my first step into the world of biking. It wasn’t a superbike, but it gave me that connection with two wheels I’d always wanted. Still, the “Ninja dream” lived quietly somewhere inside me.

Then came a long pause. I went abroad for my studies and sold my R15 since it was idle at home. After returning to India during the second wave of COVID, I started working and got myself a Nissan Magnite — a car that served me really well. But that itch for a bike never really went away.

    The Circle of Superbikes

2022 - 23 was a turning point. My best buddy gave me the Ducati Multistrada 1200 Enduro to ride, and through him, I entered a circle of bikers who owned some incredible machines. I got to see and ride superbikes like the BMW S1000RR and Triumph Daytona 675. The fire reignited.

    The Search Begins

By 2025, superbikes had become a recurring topic in my everyday conversations. Every morning after the gym, I’d sit at a teashop with my friend, and somehow, the discussion always turned to superbikes. I’d often open BikeWale, calculating EMIs and dreaming of possibilities.

That’s when the Kawasaki ZX4R caught my eye — a 4-cylinder, fully faired sportbike that seemed like the perfect balance of performance and practicality. My girlfriend encouraged me to explore the idea seriously. After hours of discussions and calculations, she simply said, “Let’s go to the showroom.”

July 13, 2025 – The Day It All Began

We visited Kawasaki Coimbatore just to look around. The showroom had the Z900, ZX10R, Ninja 650, 500, 400, and 300 — but no ZX4R or ZX6R in sight.

I started the Z900 just to show her how an inline-4 sounds, and she was instantly impressed. The team at Kawasaki Coimbatore was extremely courteous and even allowed me a quick test ride with her — something showrooms rarely permit. That short ride made both of us even more excited.

But now came the confusion. The Z900 was ₹11.4L on-road, ZX4R was ₹10.7L, and the ZX6R — which I hadn’t even initially considered — was quoted at ₹13.87L (on-road, Coimbatore).

I was torn between the Z900 and ZX4R, trying to balance passion with practicality. My girlfriend, however, calmly advised me to think long-term. She sensed my hesitation about the ZX4R’s power figures and said something that stuck with me:
“If you’re going to invest this much, get something that will stay with you for the next 5-6 years.”

Her words shifted my perspective. We began looking seriously at the ZX6R — a bike I’d always admired but never dared to consider. It was beyond my initial ₹10L budget, but after watching countless reviews and thinking it through, I decided — this was it.

    July 16, 2025 – The Booking

We went back to the showroom to book the ZX6R, even though I had never seen one in person or taken a test ride. The showroom was busy delivering a Versys 1100, so we waited. Then, by pure coincidence, the salesperson mentioned there was a ZX6R in the service bay if we wanted to take a look.

    That moment felt surreal.

It was love at first sight — the proportions, the design, the aura. Not as large as a ZX10R, but muscular, aggressive, and perfectly balanced. I couldn’t sit on it since it was on a paddock stand, but I was concerned about the 830mm seat height (I’m 5'7”). The staff then called us back again, saying we could hear it start up — and as they fired it up, the inline-4 symphony filled the bay. That sound sealed the deal.

I booked the bike that very day. The waiting period: six long months.

    The Unexpected Surprise

Two months later, on September 18, 2025, I received a call from Kawasaki Coimbatore. A new batch of ZX6R had arrived with a new color scheme and a ₹69K price hike. I rushed to see it and instantly fell in love with the new colors.

The team promised to try and get my bike sooner.

Then, out of nowhere, on September 23, 2025 (a Monday morning), I got the call. I was in the middle of a Scrum meeting — but I skipped it. The salesperson said,
    “Sir, your bike has arrived!”

For a few seconds, I was speechless. The dream I had chased for over 16 years was standing just a few tens kilometers away.

I rushed to the showroom with my best friend and saw two ZX6Rs standing there.

Kawasaki Coimbatore, being as courteous as ever, let me choose my own chassis number between the two. I immediately called my girlfriend, and she helped me pick one.

The next few days went into arranging the funds. The payment cleared on October 3, and the RTO process was scheduled for October 6. I’ve planned to take delivery on Monday — and as I write this, I feel like a kid waiting for Christmas morning.

I’ve driven past the Kawasaki Coimbatore showroom countless times, slowing down every single time just to catch a glimpse of the bikes inside. I’d often wonder if I’d ever be able to walk in there and own even a Ninja 300 — let alone one of those superbikes. But that day, everything felt different. Standing in front of the same showroom, I saw my own ZX6R gleaming under the display lights. My girlfriend — the pillar behind this dream — stood beside me as I took a photo to remind myself of that exact moment.

That bike in the display wasn’t just a machine anymore. It was my childhood dream, waiting behind that glass for me to take it home.

This post on XBhp has been a bucket-list dream for years. I’ve read countless ownership reviews here, always imagining the day I’d get to write mine. And now, with tears of joy in my eyes, I can finally say it:

    I’ve done it.
The Ninja dream has finally come true.

Stay tuned — the delivery experience and first ride impressions are coming next.
