  • [Ownership Thread]: Honda UNICORN - 54,000 KM Ownership Experience

    Hi XBHP,

I have never posted anything on this site until now. Since I dont have anything exciting to post I figured an apt beginning would be for an unbiased honest and accurate review of my experience with my trusty UNICORN. Its a 2005 Honda Unicorn RED.

I have faint recollection of its initial days as it was bought by my father and being the meticulous person that he is I am sure all services and oil changes etc would have been completed text book style.

After months of my return from working in Dubai I began using the bike frequently. It was an unsaid agreement that I could use the bike so long as I would look after it like my dad did. Hence I would wash, wipe, oil, grease, sing and dance with the bike as expected by my dad.

My initial impression was that any Honda product was hyped in India and that the quality was exaggerated hence I was watching the bike's performance carefully. Mileage 50-52 kmpl in the city for the first 5 years. NOTHING in the bike was changed (ok, Oil and a typre perhaps) till 50,000.

Now reflecting on all the years of less than ideal driving I must say that I am a Honda fan. I will detail all the minor changes done once the moderators approve the post. I am sure that not many people will get to see an original Red Honda Unicorn 2005 these days.

Please let me know and Ill post pics if interested.

Do share some pics buddy , Am a unicorn user too but not tje original one mine is a 2014 model . The old unicorns had incridible build quality and it's was so reliable still many People are using it . Am not a honda fan but I love the refinement of their engines. But I hate honda service people, they are just useless.
I don't ride a bike to add days to my life .

Nice to see someone writing 2005 Unicorn ownership thread. I had a 2006 Unicorn and sold it in 2010. Wish I still had it

I too had a 2005 Unicorn (kick start model) candy grey color. Sold it after 9 years of companionship in dec-2014. I was fan of Honda before owning it, but service center people made me other wise. But the bike is a gem. It was my first bike and first think I bought of money which I earned my self. I had great moments with it.

Covered around 70K kms before selling it due to my ill maintenance. Still missing it. I was so spoil by it so that I am yet to find a worthy replacement.

I am subscribing to your thread. Please keep sharing your experiences.

                Hello fellow riders,

I too belong to the " Be A Wing Rider" era, possessing the launch model Black Unicorn.

After being together for a dozen years, she is still with me, going strong and fighting the battle out of ageing, ODO reads about 75k kms.

Truly, the first gen bikes were the best in terms of build quality and durability.

I'm planning to get a paint job done, hence looking for the right place in Pune. Anyone here for the rescue?

Congrats bro. Very true. The first gen products have sense of quality which seems to be lacking somewhat in latter generations. This is very true for Honda products. Their quality has gone down somewhat. The metal starts rusting faster & engine components lack built to last feel.
