  • [Ownership Thread]: Reinventing myself with an invented charisma: Ninja 650R (2016 Edition)

    Hello all

Before I start, this is to point out that I am a novice compared to all other while writing down of their experiences also at the same time to clarify that it is not a review but an ownership experience as per the category of thread I chose so it will not be technical as you must be knowing all those small technical details in similar reviews/ownership experiences published earlier. Those are available on the company website as well, so if I am missing anything, it could be intentional but I would be happy to answer your queries at the best of my knowledge and capabilities. It is not a new bike to the market but for me it is hence it will be directly from heart.

    Discovering the biker within:

Well I had owned a Bajaj Kawasaki Caliber 115, popularly known as 'Hoodi baba' back in 2003 (Good old days),

I waited for some time, collected cash, read reviews and comparison on internet, watched video logs on YouTube and shortlisted my dream machine in 6L category. It took me good three months to make up my mind on the machine I chose.

I felt my life has taken a U Turn, I had gone back to a Pure Kawasaki and not just a K-Tec Engine this time.
I knew by this time that I am looking for a comfortable, easy on pocket yet has a class of its own, beautiful, powerful, full of charisma of a world class brand, trusted engine, city and highway friendly and if my heart takes me to, than occasional track outings.

I chose Ninja (Need no introduction), Ninja 650R 2016.

PS: All the picture used till now are taken from web which were used for advertisement purpose by the brand and not of my own bike.

    Buying Experience:
    The D Day:
I went early with my father, no one from accompanied us as we wanted to keep it simple affair, no undue attention or hoopla around.
Kawasaki Delhi brought two for me to choose from, I chose mine after detailed inspection (overlooked that it had small defect in paint job). He asked me twice to be sure that I wanted that one, and I again said yes as it was standing in front of me in its glory and as it happens, beauty often blind the person and they might forget the world and practicalities around unless someone brings them to realities.

It was Saubhagya again who pointed that defect and said, he brought second as he had discovered this defect earlier and wanted to give me fault free piece. Obviously I felt embarrassed as I had inspected the piece thoroughly.

All I can say now, good person and a nice experience of buying me this beauty. These kind of instances bring faith in the dealings.

The one attached here standing at the front, was the one with defect.

I don't know what to say or feel at that time, Saubhagya arranged for the cake. May be it is a ritual with big bikes I said to myself but I felt overwhelmed so was my father (he still had that look on his face that I was putting my money in a gutter, up until now) as if it is a birthday celebration for me. Rightly, I was reborn that day. I returned to the platform of biking.

The host of this new event (Kawasaki Delhi) clicked some more snaps for my and their Facebook page. It is a memory now, may be a history to be remembered forever by my son and daughter when they would look back once they grow up.

I was about to ride a super sport category bike, first one in the entire circle that I ever been part of. A dream fulfilled.

The moment when I was asked to climb on the saddle and my heart skipped a beat.

My facial expressions are enough to tell the tale, look at the first picture and the last. Transformation from a scared puppy to confident poser

Wow! All those technical specifications came to my mind but more than everything what bothered me was 'Man this is 214KG beast' how am I going to handle this, Oh! God, give me power and strength to keep it steady and boom in a flash I was on top when she said silently to me, hey! Remember we know each other from your dream. Don't worry I won't kill you, take it easy.

It was standing on its two wheels with ease, did not felt the weight. (You Tube Videos did help in lifting technique).
Bike came out of showroom for me to take her home; I was provided with some basic tips on the bike and an advice: 'Don't worry, she is very friendly, take care of her and she will take care of you forever'.

(Heard first time that they call its engine 'a bullet proof engine', experts know it better than me so no further elaboration)

Some more photography took place on my request, though I always been a camera shy person but what was this, I was already changing.

Needless to say, the kids were happy and excited for this new member. Elder one knew 'Ninja' and were seeing first one up close.

    What I liked:
What I don't like:My advice to future buyers:

Biking is more to heart than mind, so hear your heart to take a buying decision with cautious use of mind to make that decision worthy enough for you to enjoy. Too much heart and too much mind both could spoil the fun.
I can't say, I did not use my mind however as I did compared bikes in similar capacity but perhaps in my case my heart and mind both were calibrated throughout my hunt for dream machine.

Thank You all for your patience and time for reading me out. All the best, have a safe ride on whatever you ride.

    Yours, New on X-bhp, newbie650

Thanks Man, I can say read many before and tried to keep it as neat as possible without missing any bit of my first experiences. I bought my riding gears, a cramster tourer jacket (little uncomfortable for Delhi in summer), riding boot (Zeus) , and gloves (Cramster), a dual certified helmet from THH (was looking for ISI sticker on DOT helmets for police check posts, laws have become more stringent).

It was the jacket that was the cause of dehydration along with hot air coming out radiators , I was given full gyan back at home once they came to know about it.

Thanks buddy, I was blown over by the color scheme that they offered me 2015 at a discounted price but I ignored.

Don't know about this being like a kid to me as I am sure will take care of her and expect a similar treatment from, which I don't expect from Kids these days in coming years.

Life expectancy?? What can I say, I am feeling young again so may be you are right.

Thanks, I will share initial ride experience in details. May be it will throw some light on perspective buyers who are planning to upgrade from 150CC and may have some misconception in their mind about big engines.

Congratulations on your new bike and welcome to the Kawasaki family, I too have a 2-month old ER-6n, bought at the right time when they had introduced the 30k discount as well as got the Kawasaki Riding Jacket with it and have ridden 1600 KMs so far with the first service done, which came up to 4.7k as they change the oil and oil filter at first service which itself comes up to 2k, so 2nd service will be costing less for sure. What all aftermarket accessories have you got on your bike so far, I have got the radiator guard, which is a must buy for the bike, paddock spools and paddock stand, 3M PPF coating on the tank, which ensures no scratches from belts or zippers and also changed the stock horn to a dual horn as the stock one is too mute to the traffic conditions we ride here. Wanted to change the stock headlight bulbs and went ahead and even bought H7 Phillips Extreme Vision bulbs thinking that it was the same ones used as on the Ninja, but was so wrong, as on the ER-6n its the H11 bulb, but luckily I gave the bulbs back to the seller and in turn bought a set of new wipers for the car as that too was needed badly.

Thanks Mate, same to you as well. Nice deal that you got there, I was offered the same deal but my heart was already swayed by 2016 faired beauty .

Modification: I got radiator guard from redline, got 3M PPF, saree guard replaced by left side grab rail. Frame Sliders - Puig Pro. Rest of the bike I am intending to leave as stock only. I used the stock headlamp on highway (High Beam mostly) with my tinted visor in night travel from Delhi to Jaipur, surprised I did not felt they were incompetent. Low beam with tinted glass felt useless though.
