  • [Ownership Thread]: Yamaha Saluto 125cc

    Hi Riders,

I own a Hero Honda Passion 2003 model 90,000KMs done. Which is still an epitome of engine refineness from Honda. Recently due to it's age the ride quality & comfort has taken a little hit because of my commute in Chennai for 45KMs every day. Hence i decided to go for a commuter with better power, but not more as i need good mileage.
My options were Bajaj V15, Honda Shine SP & Yamaha Saluto 125 as they were good & in my INR 75,000 budget.

Happy that after a long R&D and suggestions from our fellow riders i finally decided to go for YAMAHA SALUTO 125. Over Bajaj V15, it is very nimble, light weight & has 3 year extended warranty during purchase; over Shine SP, almost same expect for a little power and that 5th gear for which i have to pay a premium of INR 5,000, i was not ready. Hence my long term dream of owning an YAMAHA became active now.

I bought it from SHANTI MOTORS, Pallikarani, Chennai on 14-September-2016 for INR 69,670 (includes bumper, buzzer, ladies handle with mandatory accessories).
I had an issue here, the plastic attachment that comes around the tank was a bit odd, the left part had too much gap between itself and the tank, though the showroom manager replaced it with a different once. I would say it was 90% okay not 100%. I saw few other bikes, but hey had no issues with that, so may be mine was the only exception. But with Yamaha, we expect 100% fit & finish don't we? so potential buyers do look for this plastic attachment. I rode 7KMs with pillion from showroom to home and it was good. Nice torque upfront, less gear shift, loud horn, good grip with CEAT Secura Zoom+ tyres. I dint miss the 5th gear as most of the riders in Chennai knows, that only during early morning/early noon of weekends the 5th gear comes into play.. . Haven't done registration yet, it will happen in few days.

I will keep posting on the experience with the bike, the service routine and the glitches i come across. Until then please make yourself home with the following pictures.,

As mentioned earlier the problem i faced was with this plastic attachment to the tank. Instead of this, Yamaha could have beefed up the tank a little (may be another 2/3 kgs would add up to the weight)

Majestic Red is the color you're looking for. Unfortunately it has been discontinued and the bike is no longer manufactured in that color. Also, the model is a 2016 Disc Brake Saluto 125.
