  • [Ownership Thread]: KTM Duke 125

Launched at an introductory price of Rs 1.18 lakh (ex-Delhi), the KTM 125 Duke is the smallest in the Duke range in India. The bike costs around Rs 33,000 less than the non-ABS variant of the 200 Duke. KTM has kept the styling of this motorcycle the same as the 200 Duke, presumably to keep costs in check. The KTM 125 Duke is India’s first 125cc motorcycle with a liquid-cooled engine. The 124.7cc DOHC motor churns out 14.5PS at 9250rpm, and 12Nm at 8000rpm. A six-speed transmission transfers power to the rear wheel via a chain drive. Just like the 200 Duke, the 125 also features an aluminium swingarm, WP upside down front forks and WP Monoshock at the rear. The motorcycle comes to a halt using 300mm front and a 230mm rear disc, with single-channel ABS. The tyres are also the same MRF Revz rubber as the 200 Duke.

I would love to hear from the current owners on how does this bike perform in real world scenarios.
I read on the Internet that this bike can give around 50Kmpl Mileage.
However, these days you cannot trust every source when it comes to such figures.

Yes I know I'm bumping an old thread.

Sweet. This is a workhorse to be precise. Mileage wise it should be a star among the Duke boys, and the rest of the design elements, well it flows.

        Cheers!

        The girl said, 'NO!'

And the guy lived happily ever after and rode motorcycles and watched sport on a big screen TV, went fishing and surfing, and played golf a lot, and drank beer and scotch and had tons of money in the bank and left the toilet seat up and farted whenever he wanted.

I might buy this at the end of this year.
I would love to have the advantage of Mileage with good road grip and balance.
I think I will go for a longer test ride or try to find a rental Duke125 so that I can get the real world experience of the bike.

I checked OLX and found two sellers who were selling it for as much as the new bike. 1.48L.
At the showroom, the bike costs 1.49L on-road.

Test drive is crucial. As coming from an R3, it can be extremely underpowered, but it excels in the handling department keeping in mind the merits that it shares with its elder siblings. Most sell only to regret later due to lower power and what not. It's essential to take a good long test ride before taking a plunge, better with pillion.

                        Its going to release today.
It may have better mileage but we can only comment on that part after a few months.
I am not sure of the quality of Indianized Yamaha bikes. I didn't like the yamah scooters so much.
However, I absolutely enjoyed the FZ25. Its so comfortable and easy to ride. Its light and just like a cycle.
I hope mt15 is like it and gives good mileage. If it has the same engine as R15v3 then I think I will scan the v3 ownership thread to see what people are talking about mileage figures there.

I did a test ride on the day of the launch. So it was a brand new bike.
I stalled it about 4 times before I realized that it had very low power output at low RPM.
In a way its first gear is even weaker than my Splendor. But Splendor's 1st gear is made for torque.

TBH, I found the Duke125 a bit uncomfortable on this short test ride(Seat part). Which is probable because of the rear set footrest.
However, I like the fact that it has a handlebar that can be adjusted a bit and or even changed if I don't find it comfortable.
Something that I cannot do with R3.

My inclination towards KTM is because of the premium parts, features and a bike where I can control the power when I need it.
Something that my scooter cannot provide (controllable torque).

I have already started my sales pitch to my wife so that by the end of the year I would be able to buy the baby Duke. Problem is, carrying grocery on duke would be difficult and my wife wants me to sell R3 and not the scooty

At 14.5 bhp odd and a torque output equivalent to that of a Victor GLX, this thing is all about wringing its neck to extract the maximum fun out of that brilliant chassis. Apart from the tall fuel efficiency claims and corner carving fun, the Duke is pretty much the same. Comfort varies from person to person, I'd recommend you to take your partner along for a test drive, a longer one if permitted, so you both know what the pain points are w.r.t to your usage.

Nothing can replace the humble scooter in any household, they do almost everything that any vehicle out there can do apart from fork lifting action (pun intended). Listen to wifey, she's probably always right especially when it comes to R3.

                          Cheers!
