[Ownership Thread]: Suzuki Vstrom 650 XT Ownership Experience Thread

I have been a member of xBHP Hyderabad Chapter since my college days. I still remember, I was in the 1st year of college (8 years back) and xBhp did an all India ride on Suzuki Motorcycles ( 2 Inazumas, 1 Hayabusa & 1 Vstrom 1000). That was the first time I witnessed what an ADV looked like. I was young and that bike left an imprint in my head "That one day I will get one of them".

That day finally came after a long long time (3rd Jan, 2020) and I got myself the stunning looking Ocean White colored Suzuki Vstrom 650 XT from Hyderabad Gem Suzuki, Kondapur.

I am extremely overwhelmed with the experience and would love to create a thread for this beautiful tourer so that we all owners and lovers of this bike are on the same page.

Avinash bhai rode the Vstrom while I was waiting at the hotel to welcome the team in Hyderabad. Good old memories.


The mighty Vstrom 1000 that left me drooling over the intimidating size and looks.




INITIAL OWNERSHIP REVIEW : The motorcycle is a blast to ride. Supremely comfortable for my height (I am 6ft). The engine is extremely cold running. Even in bumper to bumper traffic the three bars never cross. Till now the cooling fan has not even hit once. I am not even sure if the fan is working or not.

The weight is 216 kgs but trust me on this, its supremely well balanced and managed well. The center of gravity is low damn low. I can handle it like my Fazer Fi and Gladiator. The only time I feel the weight is in tight parking spaces where I try to pick the rear end of the bike and slide side ways (Desi style ).

The odometer reads 320 kms right now and the avg consumption on the dashboard is 23.6 kmpl so far. I am riding it quite smoothly as its a new engine. I have hit 150 kmph couple of times during overtakes and you will not even realize when 150kmph comes on the speedo. Its just too quick thanks to the torque that the V twins make.

Brakes are totally sufficient. Initial bite might feel to be less on the front ones. The traction control is spot on. Saves totally. Its a torque machine and always better to have some safety net.

Suzuki really treats premium bikes very well. The technician is very sound.

The wind screen still leaves me with some wind buffetting on the helmet. I will think about it after breaking in period. Might go for a simple clamp-on deflector. Last option will be touring screen from Puig or Touratech. Fingers crossed as they will cost a bomb.

I am waiting to get crash bars and skid plate installed and have shortlisted T-Rex Racing kit and found it to be the best engineered. SW Motech and Givi skid plates mount on the engine crank case, which i felt absolute non-sense in case of a hard landing after a jump. Still reconsidering multiple designs and brands. Will update on that later.

Congratulations! I also appreciate this bike a lot...It has everything that a touring bike needs in the middleweight motorcycle segment with a check on the price as well..

Congratulations [MENTION=28012]bobisbacktorock[/MENTION] I have just booked my Vstorm from GEM automotive, Kondapur, Hyderabad. I hail from Odisha and will be travelling to Hyderabad to take delivery in a weeks time.

I plan to install crash guard, skid plate, extra lights, centre stand, radiator grills. Also, i wish to install panniers but the options i am getting are really expensive. Kindly advise me on brands i should go with and where i can get these in Hyderabad.

Firstly a big CONGRATULATIONS! Please let me know the date of delivery. If possible will try to tag along with you on the day of delivery.

The brands of crashbars are SWMotech, GIVI but I don't think its readily available in Hyderabad. You can order them from bigbadbikes.com who are based in Bangaluru.

You can DM me if you need any more help. Meanwhile I can check with some SBK accesories dealer in Hyderabad where you might get the crash bars and engine protectors.
