  • [Ownership Thread]: Hero Xpulse 200

Many will say motorcycles need to be powerful which the hero XPulse 200T isn't, at least not as powerful as the other 200 ccs out there.
You all know the specifications of this bike or can look it up here: https://www.heromotocorp.com/en-in/xpulse200t/
All you will read here is solely my experience.

I bought this motorcycle only for its relaxed and neutral riding posture and for its retro yet not baroque looks.
The posture just feels perfect to me because I sit upright while riding it.
I am 5 feet and 6 inches and my feet tip toe while on it in standstill. But riding it is easier than it may seem.

    Engine
    :
The engine is not as powerful as other bikes of the segment but does the job for me as I mostly do commutes from home to college and back.
The engine though has enough torque to pull at speeds as low as 30km/hr in 5th gear without any knocking sound. The engine feels subdued under 2.5k rpm but comes to life after 3k to rpm. Almost all single cylinder motorcycles have vibrations and so does this one which comes in at 6.5 rpm though the engine feels eager to rev despite of the 9k rev limit.
The mileage is about 39kmpl right now with first 2 services done.

    Features
    :
Full LED headlamp is not blinding but is better than most halogens out there while draining the battery less and come with the assurance of a longer life as all LEDs do.
The fully digital console has all necessary information like time, tripmeter, Odometer, Gear position indicator, Engine rpm right on the default screen.
It also has a computerized navigation feature which requires to be linked with your phone via the Hero ride guide app which is simple enough but I would have preferred a way to send a destination to it via the Google map.
It also has a eco indicator which tells you to maintain the engine rpm at a certain level ( 3000 to 6000 maybe).
The seat has ribbed finish which helps to prevent from siding forward when a hard brake is applied.
The raised handle bar makes for a relaxed and upright riding stance.

    Brakes
    :
The front 276mm dual piston caliper comes with ABS as default which feels well calibrated i.e. not too sudden but strong enough to bring the the bike to a halt even at speeds of 90kmph plus under 8 seconds. But the rear tyre does skid a little when front brake is applied with full force.
The rear brake has a single piston caliper with a 200mm rotor which is mediocre at best and can't be relied on for panic breaking at speeds above 80kmph.

    Tyres
    :
The front has a 100/80 MRF zapper i believe and the rear is a 130/70 radial MRF REV ZS.
The rear tyre really provides good confidence while leaning being a radial.
    The front does the job.
The tyres are also a crucial part of braking so maintain the recommend the tyre pressure as per manual.

    Looks
    :
The bike really does turn heads as it has a unique retro look. I too love it's look design which is not too ornate for a modest guy like me. Also the lack of any plastic ferring( hero xtreme 200r) provides an assurance that there will be no rattling sound in the near future.
    Simple yet gorgeous.

    Overall
    :
This bike for me a complete value fort money at 1.14 lakhs on road Dhanbad (Jharkhand) which is still cheaper than the Apache rtr 160 4v or the Yamaha FZS here in my town which cost above this.
The best part is that hero's parts are cheaper than its competitors while not being less reliable.
Here is a picture of the bike. Will post more if you guys require.

    Thanks

Congrats on the new bike, Wish you many safe and trouble free miles on it.

I have a question for you, Can you please let me know the rear and front sprocket tooth count? It must be written in the owners manual.

      Thanks in Advance

ID:	2234019Bought the BS6 Xpulse 200T a month ago in the red color. Probably the least famous of all the 200s but underrated nonetheless.
              Requirements:
              1. Compact and easy to ride in the city
              2. Comfortable suspension
              3. Very shot pillion ride capability (10km max one way)
              4. Price less than 1.5 lakhs
              5. Not very loud in appearance
              6. Decent mileage (in the 40s)
              Bikes considered prior to purchase:
              1. MT-15: I am north of 35 and it doesn’t suit me, plus the pillion seat is for mice, probably. I still wish maybe I should have given this a second thought sometimes but the old dude in me says otherwise.
              2. Xpulse : No tubeless tyres, looks were not suitable for my teaching self. Suspension is in a different league than the 200T but the maneuverability in the city in the 200t is different than the xpulse in the same way. Road going requirements ultimately led to the 200t.
              3. Hornet: Attitude of Honda ALL dealers in my town made me swear off any honda. Plus a lot of plastic, and unnecessary plastic at that. Pricier than the 200T by 20k approx.
              4. Yamaha FZ25: fear of discontinuation, Yamaha dealers themselves do not recommend it, costly service and low mileage. I have a versys 650 to do touring duties so did not really need a high capacity motorcycle.
              5. Yamaha FZX: verrry expensive for what it offers. smooth engine and nice exhaust note but goes out of breath post 70kph and felt like sitting on a fat pig after trying out the 200T.
              6. Gixxer: Pillion seat is way high up and way uncomfortable. Never took a test ride though.
              7. Apache 180 / Apache 160 4v: Started out my motorcycle search with the 160 4v in mind actually. Simply could not get over the front headlight look (too funky for me) although it is the best motorcyle in class. Decided then on the 180 but the same issue of a very funky headlight made me skip this too. Somehow seeing less of apache 160 4vs than even the 200T (in my town) also did not give me much confidence to buy it.

I won't say the 200T competes with the 200cc class but maybe the 180cc class. BUT, the looks, features and low maintenance (hopefully) are what you pay for, and you don't pay much (especially on comparing to the 180ccs and even a few 150ccs (FZX anyone??!!))
Had a honda twister bought second hand before I sold it off and got this one. The HERO dealer must have been the sole reason
Absolutely no complaints so far (1900km done) other than a rattily engine. There are no vibes to be felt till 85 kph, which I think will definitely reduce on switching to motul or some semi-synthetic as well as on running the engine a bit more.
Suspension is smooth and definitely the best I have ridden on (comparing scooters and bikes up to 100ccs here)
IF ONLY hero invested a little R&D into the engine to make it not more powerful, not more refined, but at least a little bit less rattly.
Cruising speeds are 90kph max, above which the engine screams bloody murder. BUT, the mileage is consistent at around 42kmpl (when ridden with a sane wrist, at or below 80 kph) which is awesome for a 200CC.
Headlight is strangely adequate for me, compared to the general opinion that it sucks.
AN EXTREMELY compact, retro plus modern looking, no-nonsense bike.
Seat though extremely narrow is extremely comfortable, don't ask me how I do not know. I have ridden at a stretch for 75 minutes (70% highway, 30% city and country roads) and do not feel any bumsores. I weigh close to the ton BTW.
Only hope is that the engine does not give out for a long time, otherwise it is the perfect bike for the non-racing, brisk pacing 30s guy with one eye out for fuel efficiency and the other out for low maintenance.

Feel free to shoot up any questions, if at all you read this post.

(Me and My Friend Rahul on the day of twin Xpulse 200 delivery)

I never expected i will writing this in late 2021.

But man after abusing Duke 390 for unknown reasons and busting out those Front suspension seal many times i thought of shifting towards Xpulse 200 to explore more of off roading and other thing in world of motorcyling.

(our Bikes arrived at Showroom before delivery)

First of all i have had two thoughts before buying this due to small engine and lot of confusions and questions online and unavailability of Motorcycle and its knowledge in the area i reside.

So after consulting few owners and taking small test ride from local owner contacting via Instagram. Thanks to social media.

I and my friend, both of us decided to take leap of faith in investing this motorcycle with thoughts of at least exploring local Forest area and sanctuaries which is in close distance and we have so many opportunities to explore things in close proximity.

                (Conquering mud like a boss)

I also own Duke 390 so i can use it for long tours and Xpulse 200 for off road purpose. So it was easy choice for me to pick it without hesitation. If i don't feel like touring on Xpulse i can do it on Duke 390.

                Anyways that's the pre-purchase thing.

Here is my experience of purchasing the Xpulse200 :

Click image for larger version Name:	WhatsApp Image 2021-09-30 at 1.06.18 PM.jpeg Views:	92 Size:	88.2 KB ID:	2234571
                (Xpulse200 after first service)

But after using it for about 700+ kms i think this machine very capable and underrated motorcycle in India or in Gujarat at least.

I am still very far from abusing it as i recently got it serviced after pre run. But after a small ride on highway after pre run phase i felt i can be used for touring also if you are not speed seeker and can accelerate steadily.

                First Service Cost :

Everything apart so far i have not done hardcore broken roads or trails as i was waiting for first service. But i have done some rough roads and muddy roads and i was impressed how easily Xpulse 200 rode over it. And Best part was its really light and easily maneuverable. I mean its agile.

(All the fun begins where road ends)

So far i am feeling really happy and excited for future to come. I have nothing else to complaint except bad Headlight.

Best thing that i felt was after purchasing Xpulse200 i don't have to worry about Speedbrakers and pothole like i used to on Duke390. I mean for price of 1.34 L on road It offers so many good things for riders like me who are happy to go on those beaten paths and don't want to go unhappy or sad after no being able visit those places because our motorcycle won't allow fun. Sacrifice on speed is accepted to unlock that meditation of being in the nature and get muddy on those broken paths or even no paths at all. We can do it all with this small pocket bomb.

After purchasing Xpulse200 in excitement of it i have bought and installed some new accessories on it like Side stand shoe , Hazard module and LED bulbs at first because it will be mostly ridden in mud or lose soil condition in this weather and visibility is required. Hazard is as per me is very important accessory or feature to have in a motorcycle for safety and emergency reasons its not a thing to show off.

(Purchased new MX helmet for those trails to come and it's so light it doesn't even feel like i am wearing it)

After using it for couple of day i felt like adding extra fog lights for better vision at night due to low vision with stock LED , Handlebar risers for Saddling and a toprack plate to mount a small bag to carry all my stuff like rain gear , camera and some food & water.

Here is the link to my video on same :

I will update more as i explore more in this new era of Xpulse in my life.

Hey everyone i have done about 4500kms in odo and i love this machine so much.

It's so good for trails and offroads you will enjoy every bit of it.

Riding in stock so far. Planning to change tyres to Ralco tyres for better offroad grip.

Recently i have done a short ride of 450kms to Pune on my xpulse 200 and i felt its more comfy and can do 500+ kms in a day.

It requires some changes in you riding style if you have been riding a motorcycle like Duke 390 !

That's my setup for a 5-10 days long ride.

Viaterra pod 22L + 12L without using any kind of saddle stays. I have installed a rear plate for it. But now i plant to remove it and mount these bag on seat.

Small bag for tools and accessories for camera. Big one for cloths and other things

                I will update more.
