  • [Ownership Thread]: TVS Sport Ownership Thread

Seems like we don't have an ownership thread for TVS Sport on this forum.

    So let's begin.

I bought a BS4 TVS Sport KLS variant a month back. Got a discount of only 2000 k on the BS4 variant. KLS means kick, long seat. There's no self starter.

The total odo is at 2600 till date excluding the lockdown period.

I also own a RE Thunderbird 2015 model sitting at 1,20,000 on the odo.

The Sport was purchased strictly for office commuting purposes in Delhi NCR traffic. My daily run to office and back home is 160kms.

Initially wanted a gearless scooter but later realised they're out of my budget. They cost more than these 100cc commuters.
Also preference was to buy the cheapest bike in the market.

Shortlisted bikes were Bajaj CT 100/110 and TVS Sport. HML was again out of budget and so was Honda.

CT 100 went out of contention since it didn't have a fuel gauge.

Got short listed between CT 110 and TVS Sport.

CT 110 with the discount was in fact cheaper than the TVS Sport, however the posture on the Sport seemed to be better.

A very important criteria in the buying decision was the weight of the bike. Coming from 190 kgs of the RE, the new vehicle had to be super lightweight. The CT 110 was 5 kgs heavier than the sport which weighs a bit over100kgs

Since the dealership doesn't provide test rides for these commuters, this was the first vehicle in my stable which was bought without any test ride. Initially shortlisted the spoke version, but later upgraded to the alloy variant.

    Pros
    1. Extremely lightweight and flickable
    2. Looks good at the price range
    3. Has better features at the price range than immediate competition
    4. TVS branding
    5. Supposed to be mileage ka baap

    Cons

1.Vibes from the engine till 65 km/h and then as it revs higher it becomes smooth.

    2. I felt the mileage to be on the lower side considering me it is a 100cc.

    3. Super lightweight makes it dangerous it sways in crosswinds, and if a heavy vehicle overtakes.

The bike has gone through only the first service, so let's see how things unravel.

Hi Bro Congratulations.Try using a fully synth oil(10w40 insted of 10w30) either go for shell ultra rs 710 or try the new Sk Zic m9 fully synth oil from south korea rs 500/liter and drain interval is 5-6000 kms..Your engine vib and mileage should improve.

Since you are using mineral oil,do a oil flush before changing into fully synth.Mineral oil lasts from 2-3000 kms,and fully syth lasts from 5-6000 kms,so rather than doing 2 oil change with mineral oil, better do just one with fully synth( even price wise,u are not loosing much) and believe me,you will get fantstic gear shifts, low vib, good mileage and response with cooler engine.

Also try to upgrade your normal sparkplug to platinum(rs 110-150 ,ngk g power or bosch) ,and u wont get any misfire, more performace, cumbustion, lesser vib and more mileage.

Since its a new bike,u may use a teflon coating to protect paint.Always idle the bike after start without using accelerator for 20-30 sec which will ensure good engine lubrication.Drive between 45-55kmphr at top gear for more mileage and engine durability.Always shift the gear without giving any acceleration(most of the time, guys are in a hurry and frequently they shift gear even while accelerating partially which can damage the gear sprokets, gear shifter, gear drums, springs and increased clutch plate wear leading to lower clutch life ,low performance and mileage.

Always park the bike at center stand in a shady area without direct sunlight exposure( long use of side stand can slant the bikes frame and may later after many years interfear with gear shifts) also lesser petrol evaporation and paint will last longer.Fill the tyre with nitrogen, rims and tube will last longer.Monthly once lubricate your clutch cable, gear shifter and chain(see my post on clutch wire lubrication on hero honda karizma zmr page).Shift gears between 2000-3000rpm.Try to always ride the bike smoothly at high gears without stressing out engine.Lots of guys like to simply rev the bike for show, but they got no clue to what damage it does inside the engine so dont simply rev it .Another tip is to put a little vasaline petroleum jelly on battery terminals to protect it from rust and desposits and to ensure smooth recharge and conduction.

Thankyou and remember,if you take care of the bike well,it will take care of you well.

Also one more thing bro, dont frequently wash your bike ,just keep it to monthly once or maximum twice a month. For 5 min either in morning or evening ,any one time, just clean the bike with a microfiber cloth and keep it back in the bike .If u do this everyday u r bike wil look brand new even after 5 yrs.Frequent water wash leads to paint wear off and electrical wiring issues come up later which can be a big headache. When you wash bike everymonth, dry it and use a little wax polish .It will keep the bike shiny and protect the paint.

            Re: TVS Sport Ownership Thread

Thanks a lot bro for the essential tips. Might not use synthetic oil since my monthly running is 3k plus Kms and the bike will be serviced every month. Synthetic or mineral the oil will be changed every month. I used the 10w40 on a Jupiter which was there in my stable for sometime. I would say didn't find any major differences. This being a 100cc do not expect much changes. Also this is a TVS before the current Apache tech, and TVS are known for vibes.

The only difference of semi synthetic and synthetic over mineral I experienced on my P220 which was used for 45,000 Kms in 2 years.

My TB 350 uses a semi synthetic grade and I have found lesser vibes and better top end, however general consensus is these grades make no difference on the UCE block. The current odo on the TB is 1,20,000 Kms on which 50,000kms is on semi synthetic.

Posting a pic of my other darling.

              Re: TVS Sport Ownership Thread

My bikes get washed once a month, but get cleaned everyday. I also do paint touch up on rusted parts and Keep an eye out for Knicks and scratches. However the Sport being White in colour will be a bit difficult to maintain. Let us see
