Boss, mind blowing gripping. In many sections it seems quite friendly, unlike allegations heard last year of tampering with disc brakes and all. Is it so?
Please rest that wrist of yours. Rather, the whole body for a month We need more from you than the log!!!

OF ji: that is exactly the sort of disarming humility that someone of vivek ji's talent shows, which is so special about him. He is indeed quite a great man. He is as much a people man as he's a talented rider!

I totally agree with everything that he says. Vivek is someone special. A truly great man. And I am not even talking about his talent, practice, effort that goes into his life, motorcycling etc... and what a great story teller he is... I can hear him for hours.

Yes, it is also true... I did hear true stories last year about brakes and tyres being tampered with to deflate people's chance of appearing on podium or even close to it.
The Wheel was a great invention; Two Wheels with a Motor in between was even better!

Have been a silent reader on this thread and it was indeed a heartning story which gave the actual insights about the RAID, about the hardships that riders has face. Kudos to you for successfully completing the RAID, when things were not going as the way you desired. Really great great effort you put in. We are proud of you Vivek!

A rather late congrats to you vivek, I hope you are well and healed by now. I was thinking of taking part in the event, but your write up of the course just threw me out of my seat. Thats one tough ordeal mate.

I have a little bit of racing experience on the MMST track at chennai and no dirt riding whatsoever. I was thinking if there is an Adventure type entry where outright speed is not that important as I feel for a fresher or dummy like me it would be easier to cope. . I will most probably be getting a KZMA in a couple of weeks and plan to do some interstate touring and some local trails. I would like to know if you are taking part in 2010's raid and if I could speak with you about the rigours involved and if possible tagging along with your team. I promise I wont be a burden to you in anyway.

Also I would like to know if the 1.3 lacs you said was the cost for running the service team, was this amount per rider or was it on the whole. please feel free to PM me at any time. Your experience will be a boon to us budding racers.

Could you also let me know a rough estimate of the complete cost involved for participating in the event as a privateer (excluding bike and protective gear). I Thank you once again for being a huge inspiration to me.
lookin for another corny line ??

Sorry to hijack the thread.. but since you've mentioned that you don't have dirt riding experience, I'd suggest (and I'm sure most other guys will agree too) that you participate in smaller events first, .. get to know yourself better on dirt, and the sport and then give bigger events a shot..

There were no Adventure class for bikes in Raid till now,.. there were plans for it in 2009, but I don't think it happened.. this is called the TSD format and is pretty rare and generally gives you little exp. on dirt riding..

Play around on dirt / open grounds and look out for local Autocross events.. don't plan on spending big for any event atleast now..

There are plenty of smaller events that happen both in North India and in south.. you could also think of participating in INRC in south india.. the cost for participation is just a few K to begin with, and you'll probably need to spend a few K more on getting yourself there etc.. Once you gain confidence you can push for bigger events and take it further..

IMO Raid is a no-no for any one who's not familiar with dirt and himalayan conditions.. and I say this not because I doubt talent but just that there are too many variables at stake and 1L+ is a lot of money to throw away when you are unfamiliar with what you might be facing..

                  2 cents..

                    @Nitro-

Thanks. I am recovering now. I hope to participate this year but not too sure. The cost is per team.Size of the team dependes on how many like minded people you come across. The cost also varies with number of support vehicles you hire and number of support staff. I suggest that you practise on dirt and get some feel of it. As hydro mentioned, do smaller events first . Mountain rallying is bit different from local dirt events like motocross. I am not entitled to make a suggestion regarding riding skills as I myself is very new and I am still in learning phase. But I guess you know what does it mean to be in a motorsport event since you have track experience. I suggest you tie up with other local dirt riders in your area and rally enthusiasts. I heard there are major dirt events down south every alternate weekend. Start participating in them.

                    All the best.

                        hay Vivek,

Just read your writeup about the Raid, Wonderful is all I can say. I have been planing to do the raid for a long time, plan to give it a good short this year . Thanks for all the gyan . I have some questions though, If you can answer them it will help me and our fellow riders to participate in the raid and similar events.
                        > I see you had alloy wheels on the bike, do you recomend having alloy wheels and what tyres did you have ? tubed or tubeles ?
                        > Riding gear, what riding gear did you use and can you share the source and price is possible.
                        >What GPS and GPS mount do you use ?
                        >Will you recommend the new ZMR with Fi and Rear disk for the raid ?
