  • [Photo Feature]: Trackday : 12th July 2008

    **Repost of an older thread**

Me, GS_Ferrari, Anirudhrulz & WiZ headed out to the MMSC track in July for a lil lap practice! Ofcourse along with us we had GS_Ferrari's younger bro and my roomie.

The bike we were riding were 2 P220's, a slightly modded ZMA and a carb RTR.

This time we had decided that we'd head out there early in the morning, and early we were. Right at the tracks by 8AM, and it was totally empty. A first for me...and a bonus for us that we had only 3 bikes at any time on the track. Personally the empty track, cool morning breeze was just the best setup for me to improve myself. Although Anirudh is an amazing riding, the prize for awesome riding goes to GS, even with him pushing 100 odd kgs the guy was faster on the RTR with me on the 220. Now that also shows how slow I am...

From what I can remember, Anirudh clocked 2.15 on the ZMA (his personal best), and 2.20 on his 220. GS did 2.2x where x<=5......impressive I must say. My humble timings were 2.35 on the 220 and 2.30 on the RTR. Yes the RTR is faster around the track , and I just luurrvve it!!!

I really really need to up my skills at taking corners, C10-12 is the place where I loose the most amount of time. Anyways, enuf of logs, enjoy the pics!

A big thanks to WiZ for taking some really cool pics....but I still feel that you should have had a few laps on the track!

    The Track

Setting up our bikes and gearing up

    View of the track

    Anirudh on GS's ZMA

Anirudh just went ballistic on the ZMA

    Purrfect!

    GS on the RTR...

Me taking C3...or the other way round actually

    100kg on a 15ps bike and 80kg on a 20ps bike...still the 80kg struggled to take the 100kg

And its only on the straights that the 80kg had a 'slight' advantage

    Posing!

Me having a gala time...not getting chased by anyone!

    Bonus pic...'Valentino Caretakerossi' - GS

    *cough**cough*

Now GS left as it was getting really hot, Anirudh and me stayed on. I took the RTR, Anirudh was on his 220.

I bet u've not seen this happen, a 2 stroker taking on a SBK

    Anirudh nd Me

Anirudh enjoying on the 220 and me on the RTR

    Wear ur specs...

This is the first time I've seen pics of myself, and can see there is so much I am doing wrong. I hope the regulars can help me improve! But at the end of the day its a 220 I'm riding, can't ever get 100% confident about handling, unlike the RTR.

Wow nice to see this thread, had a great time with all the guys that day, i was one of the "support" team that day, by "support" i mean a caterer on a 200 (sounds cool dunnit?)
I'm too intelligent to the unintended, and too dumb for the obvious.

            Shit, I'd forgotten about that!

But I'm still confused, did you join us in this trackday or was it the one previous to this, then one in which Mr. Awais joined us??

                @Praful
good u poster the thread up again..... was just going thru the pics a couple of days back and wondering when i would ever be there again...gawd i miss being at the track on a sunday morning.....

and yeah nazrene was the caterer that day.... was so caught with riding that we actually didnt eat the whole thing...nevertheless those fun laps on the 220 wudnt have been possible without the food he got us.....and btw the old id is no more...its just my name now...

                @Wonder
Thanks......but i guess it was more because of GS's bike than my riding.... However i did get a sub 2:20(2:18 somethin iirc) on my 220(my best lap ever on a stock bike) the subsequent week...my last day with my bike and the mmsc track.....

@ani: sub 2:20 is what group B guys do today..... you could have tried your hand in racing before leaving (have you left india as of yet ??)...... they do it on the upto 160cc category though...... however i you could manage a sub 2.20 in a p220.... you could have managed a early 2.17's or the late 16's easily...... you did have a shot at the podium......
i would love to ride that zma any day..... heard a lot about it from raju sir...... i hope GS sees this

Hey Dude...firstly thanks for the confidence you have in me....but i need to tell u something....i always wanted to get into motorbike racing and thats the reason i started riding at the track.....again all these times that i did were done on a near empty track or at the max had 4 riders on the track at a given point of time.... the racing scenario is a lot different. And these lap timings were not consistent or something my average pace wud be a full 1s off the quickest times that i used to do per outing... id do one really really quick lap followed by two not so quick laps....again i never had to push myself so much... Now with all due respect, i dont know where i wud be against the pro's.....id've really loved to try my hand....but honestly id still consider myself a rookie.... if someday i do get the chance to race id definitely try it.... But i am sure under the proper guidance like i had and enough hardwork..a couple of our chennai xbhp guys(dont wanna name em) have the potential to enter racing.... and its damn sad i had to come here right when the r15 championship started(i consider it a very good launch pad to know where u stand in racing)...but thanks once again....

@ani : Dude.... I completely agree when you say the racing scenario is different..... but ideally speaking, the race timings are atleast 2 seconds faster than the qualifiers......
so less than 2.20's in the qualifiers is pretty good..... there is a lot more to racing than being on the podium my friend (the very little i learn) not trying to be a guru here my friend...... just my thought..... three cheers to your heart to ride...... nice work brother .......
