The Orange Day extravaganza finally landed in Chennai last Sunday the 25th of November, after a certain Ms.Nilam made us Chennai Dukers wait a couple of weeks. Around 60+ Dukes and their riders made their way into the ECR Speedway, a go-kart track on Chennai's famous East Coast Road. I must say, being a rare sight on the city roads (I usually see only one Duke apart from mine everyday), seeing so many Dukes at the same place made for an extraordinary sight.
As is the norm with the event, participants could choose to race their Dukes against each other, or sit back and enjoy watching others slug it out. I went there with the intent to ride on the track, but I later changed my mind (read: I chickened out
), so I opted for the latter. Most of the riders were new to racing on a track, so it was a really good thing they had an expert racer at hand who guided the participants for a few laps, instructing them on nuances of track riding. About 20 riders participated in the races. Their bikes were all prepped for track riding by the service team from KTM Adyar, who brought in a truckload of equipment to support the races. Six of the fastest riders from the elimination races were chosen to ride the final race, where the top three were awarded goodies from KTM. I couldn't witness the final race though, as I had to leave early.
Another highlight of this event was the stunt show by the Throttlerz from Coimbatore. God, those guys were awesome!! Their insane(!!) stunts on their modified Dukes left us all awestruck and astounded. I was equally amazed at the Duke's ability to effortlessly pull off wheelies, stoppies, burnouts and doughnuts, non-stop.
I'm already looking forward to the next Orange Day to happen in Chennai, only next time, it should happen at the MMSC Race Track
!! Hope you are listening KTM!!Here are some images were shot that day:
