Default New Honda Entry level Bike coming up at Delhi Auto Expo 2010

"Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India limited plans to launch a new 110 cc bike at the upcoming Delhi Auto Expo 2010. The new bike equipped with 110cc engine will be the first entry-level bike from HMSCI and will be priced around Rs. 45,000. According to company officials, although the bike falls in 100cc segment, nevertheless it will feature sporty design and style.

“We are developing a new 110cc bike for India. It is the largest segment, and we want to tap this entry-level market with aggressive prices and innovative product. Our bike will be entirely different from the current breed of 100cc bikes,” said HMSI president and CEO Shinji Aoyama. “It would be a full-fledged bike at an attractive price. It is not going to be a commuter motorcycle just because it will be part of the 100cc plus segment. It will be sporty for sure but the direction in style is somewhat different,” he stated further.

Honda had been facing labour issues at its Manesar plant and is contemplating options to set up a new manufacturing facility in Haryana or completely out of the state. "Though there is no concrete action regarding a new factory, we have started a study on the issue," said Aayoma."

I like the "... entirely different from the current breed of 100cc bikes" part.

The Original link to the 110 cc HMSI motorcycle: Honda to launch 110cc bike with new style mantra

umbai, Nov. 5 Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India’s next offering in the market will be a 110cc motorcycle that will debut during this fiscal.

Mr Shinji Aoyama, the President and Chief Executive Officer of HMSI, told Business Line that it would be a “full-fledged bike” at an attractive price. “It is not going to be a commuter motorcycle just because it will be part of the 100cc plus segment. It will be sporty for sure but the direction in style is somewhat different,” he said.

This is precisely what HMSI did with its 125cc ‘Stunner,’ which, in a rather short while, has carved a niche for itself in this category. The wholly-owned arm of Honda Motor Company has decided to focus on design and style aggressively which will also set it apart from its Indian sibling and market leader, Hero Honda.

The new 110cc bike will operate in a segment that is part of the big numbers game in India with sales of over 3.5 lakh units each month. Hero Honda’s ‘Splendor’ and ‘Passion’ models, on their own, take up over two lakh units with Bajaj Auto’s recently launched 100cc ‘Discover’ doing around 80,000 units.

HMSI has constantly reiterated that it would rather pay more attention to fun biking rather than basic commuting. The target audience will be the working youth and sources say the price could be in the region of Rs 45,000 (ex-showroom). “This will be a bike with the typical Honda DNA and will have no problems clocking initial monthly numbers of 40,000 units,” they add.

The following fiscal (2010-11) will see more action on the bike front from HMSI. “We may have a new motorcycle next year and less than two years from now there could be another big, exciting bike,” Mr Aoyama said. And while he did not elaborate on the subject, indications are that the other bikes could be in the 150cc-200cc range or even higher.

Clearly, there has been a complete shift in mindset as far as HMSI’s bike strategy is concerned since the time it launched the 150cc ‘Unicorn’ five years ago. There were no complaints on its performance then but what was missing was a style statement. While a section of the market was convinced the ‘Unicorn’ would give the Bajaj ‘Pulsar’ a run for its money, nothing of the kind happened and the latter only got stronger.

The lesson was learnt and HMSI realised the way forward was to focus on sporty, stylish bikes while letting Hero Honda consolidate its leadership position in the commuter segment. The results are there to see with the ‘Stunner’ and the company will now hope for an encore with the new 110cc motorcycle and the other bikes that follow.

What do you expect? A 110cc bike belting out 37Bhp and returning 75kmpl with smooth aerodynamics, twin spar frame and incredible handling... all at an affordable price of 45K INR?

    @Ken......Your in your Own Imaginations.........

I said an 100cc with more power means a 100cc is been titled as only a Commuter AFA India is Concerned (leave away RX and other Two strokes im talking about 4 strokes)

So if an 100cc gets atleast the power figures of an 125cc then it will give the Honda bikes a Run....for its power and Style......

And dint you read its a Honda......

After capturing almost 75% of 100cc market, I donno what do they exactly want.
May be if all the other companies exit that segment, they would feel good that whatever is sold in India (in that segment) is a Honda....!

Goshh....one more 100cc commuter bike by them...

    On a serious note:
This is a very clever step by Honda. If this once clicks, all probability have it saying..."Ba byee Hero" in 2014 or after that.
If it doesnt, they already are worlds largest seller.
Though they always claim initially before launching a product that ther (HHs and HMSIs) products would not eat up each others pie (too much)
But almost all products have cannibalized each other and what sells is a Honda (be it HH or H)

125cc- Shine, glmaor, super splendor (stunner could probably be called as a different class)
150cc- Unicorn, CBZ X, Hunk, Achiever
    Scoots- Pleasure,activa,aviator,dio

    And now 100cc....!

Anyways, good that our fathers would have more options to choose from.....
    2002 - Pulsar 150 Classic (Still owned)
    2005 - Pulsar 150 Dtsi (Still owned)
    2006 - Eterno (sold)
    2008 - Dio (Owned)
    2009 - Pulsar 220 DTSi

    Yeah yeah. A little maybe.

But hey... just for the record; have you checked out the Gladiator SS that came out some nearly two years ago. Even today, despite being just a 125cc beats the crap outta most 150cc (barring the R15) in most departments be it build type, quality, weight, outright acceleration, top-end, handling etc... Just a thought.

I was made to see certain such realities of underdog bikes by some low key esteemed members of xBhp, people who understand bikes way better than I ever will but people who do not speak much online!

I would love it if Honda brought out a product similar to that.
