  • Hero Motors ties up with Magna Steyr for new products

NEW DELHI: Hero Motors on Thursday said it has joined hands with auto component-maker Magna Steyr India to develop new products for the global and domestic market.

"Hero Motors and Magna Steyr India announced on Thursday they have entered into a business development and technical assistance agreement," the Munjals-promoted Hero Motors said in a statement.

Under the agreement, Hero Motors and Magna Steyr India will jointly develop new product lines, including drivetrain assemblies for the "global recreation market, as well as the India automotive industry," it added.

"The alliance uniquely positions Hero Motors to provide end-to-end solutions for powertrain products worldwide," Hero Motors Managing Director Pankaj Munjal said.

Magna Steyr India, located at Pune, is a part of diversified global automobile component supplier Magna International. It currently employs 190 people.

The firm is active in various automotive and recreation product engineering domains such as engines, drivetrains, electronics, seating, functional development, interiors, exteriors and complete vehicle integration.

            Right you are SatyamZMA,
Hero Honda lost the game against Bajaj long ago. Bajaj is already the clear market leader. What are they gearing up for now? Its too late, too little. Hero Honda does not stand a chance against Bajaj, HMSI, Yamaha or TVS for that matter in terms of product design & performance. HH is totally bankrupt on design ideas & market trends. HH is flogging (once the pride of indian motorcycling) dead horses like CD100, CBZ & Karizma since donkeys years with cosmetic changes. No wonder HH is now known as a lipstick & sticker company. Hero Honda is dead. So stop flogging it and let it rest in peace - RIP Hero Honda.

              pardon my ignorance...

Are these set of words "global recreation market" releated to motorcycling?

The question seems to be, whether Hero Motors can do without another JV.

But, Are you in favor or against?

personelly i want Hero to stick to number 1 position because it's quite hard to become no.1 selling bike maker in Whole world...and its very important for Hero group to remain at no.1 position at any cost as Bajaj is trying very hard..

Err dude? Who said HH is dead? Its still is one of the largest bike manufacturers in India, along with Bajaj! This january, they actually sold 3,89,802 units! The same time last year, they were selling around 3,15,458 units. Their models like the ''Splendor'' and ''CBZ'' are among the best selling bikes of all time in India! They have still got firm control over the higher end segment with the Karizma and the ZMR, even though the engine is old, people still like those bikes because of their performance.

I think you should recheck on your facts once? Comments like "Hero Honda is dead'' is highly biased and misleading.

If Bajaj do become no. 1 brand in india who is going to fill no. 2 place? TVS, honda and Yamaha are far away from being no. 2.. Hero motors should stand on its own feet and if they don't there will be anarchy, imbalance in the market. Nobody should has any monopoly. Competition is good for everyone.

Personally I wouldn't like Bajaj to become market leader because those who want to become the leader will have to focus on 100-135 cc market. If we leave 100-135cc market to Hero as it has a firm grip on it and can push its current portfolio for atleast 5 years with current tech Bajaj will buy some time to focus on 150-200+ cc segment. If this happens we might see new premium bikes coming from Bajaj's stable in near future.
It's better be no 2 than no 1. Being at no 1 the amount of responsibilities makes you forget who you really are......

I'm not in favor of another JV by Hero.. see the point here is apart from Honda.. other manufacturers are not really known for their engines!! so even if you get another partner to develop engines.. the difference will be hard to miss, isn't it?? in that case why can't Hero go alone & take this as an opportunity to become full fledged player in bikes?
