  • Man plans 300-mile Harley ride without using hands

    Home - Team Fox

The 61-year-old has been riding motor bikes and motorcycles almost 50 years, and said he'll steer with his legs and by leaning. An extra gas tank has been added to the back of his motorcycle so he can go nonstop.

Comar plans to ride to the bridge that connects Michigan's Upper Peninsula and Lower Peninsula on Saturday _ no-handed at times.

    More info from teamfox.com:
This will be a non stop, 'Hands Free Ride' (no handed) from the Mackinac Bridge to the Ohio Border. The route will be down I-75 and US-23, and will cover approximately 315 miles. I am doing this in honor of my father who died from complications with Parkinson's disease. I am hoping to get 'per mile pledges', or straight donations from anyone and everyone that wants to help win the battle against this devastating disease.

The additional side to this is that this will hopefully establish a world record for riding a motorcycle 'no handed'.

Please join me in the fight against Parkinson's disease. By supporting my Team Fox efforts, you are helping The Michael J. Fox Foundation achieve its mission to bring better treatments and, ultimately, a cure to people living with Parkinson's disease.

    Why Team Fox?

An estimated one million people in the United States and over five million worldwide are living with Parkinson's disease.

In the United States, 60,000 new cases of PD will be diagnosed this year alone.

There is no known cure for Parkinson's disease. Currently available treatments temporarily mask symptoms while the disease continues to progress.

The Michael J. Fox Foundation is dedicated to finding a cure for Parkinson's disease through an aggressively funded research agenda. MJFF is committed to ensuring the development of improved therapies for those living with Parkinson's today. As the largest nonprofit funder of PD research worldwide, MJFF works to identify and prioritize scientific solutions that hold promise to improve patient's quality of life.

Together we can cross the finish line in the race for a cure.

Well, I thought, what a crap to ride a HD without hands, but then...
Phil Comar of Adrian told The Daily Telegram that the Sunday ride is in memory of his father, Robert, who died in 2008.
    is very touchy;

Though I may not witness or even see his ride, I wish him all the best & Good Luck. Need to check out which HD is he riding on.

A Noble Spirited biker! However, He can afford to do it, because those are American roads, occupied by responsible American citizens.

Fellow Bikers, don't even attempt something of this sort in India, ok?

Indeed a nice way to raise money for charity. But how to operate the clutch and also the accelerator when using no hands?

Looks like our man has managed to complete his ride. Reportedly done it in a little over 4 hrs. Would have had to average at about 79 mph when the usual speed limits are about 70mph. Wonder if the Guiness authorities will grant him the record despite the possible over-speeding.

Link to the news: No Hands Ride completed

Very true. I can imagine bikers thinking of this as a simple and easy way of grabbing attention but our roads and traffic would turn any such attempt into a sure-shot recipe for a mishap. As they say..please don't attempt it at home.

Even I have been wondering about that. But in the apparent absence of any visible or highlighted mods to his bike except for that additional fuel tank for extended range, the rules of the game allow one to get up to cruising speed in the normal hands-on way, then dial in the cruise control and steer with your body for the rest of the distance. Of course you need roads and traffic like it is in the US for that .
I don't let my motorcycles interfere with my motorcycling...

Several years ago, I remember a person doing it in Yezdi in KL; not sure as why he did that, but he did it not more than a KM stretch & with prior approvals; he was riding up & down several times in the KM stretch & the show lasted for about an hour or so. There were cops all through the street for protection & there were no other vehicles or even people on the main road & this guy was even lying down on the seat & riding his Yezdi.

So there're similar attempts done here, but not long rides.

                    Hats off

I wonder how he changed gears *ignores crazy ideas in head*

But that's some feat there, I can do 500km in 7 odd hours with my hands firmly planted on the bike and stopping every now and then to refresh myself while this old timer has managed to do it without hands on a much much more powerful bike. lying on a bike for 4 hours + would have taken a toll on his body especially his back and not to mention straining the muscles while trying to keep the bike steady, a harley is no small bike mind you. oh and to top it off he has a big mustache too
