a friend of mine (us resident) had similar problems with his locality. he simply got the road surface outside his exit painted as an realistic oil spill and put a small road sign of "oil spill ahead"

the rubber spikes is also a good idea

Here in India, people get illegal speed breakers (which are quite steep) set in front of their homes, often one for every home in a line, so vehicle speed comes down to 5 kmph.

I've seen this all over Bangalore.

So true..In my locality..where even speeds above 20kmph is not possible...still people have built up prism like speeds breakers...which would definitely sent the bike into the sky if not seen.

worst part is...98% of them are not painted.

Interesting...this reminds me of something from last year!

China has lovely highways but not much traffic sense. So there are drivers who ride well past the speed limit on highways. When I visited the lovely city of Qingdao (Sailing events venue for Beijing olympics) last year, I also had a chance to travel on one of the highways. I saw at least parked three police patrol cars with lights flashing on the freeway in a hour's ride, and I thought,' China has a lot of policemen'. I did not pay much attention to them, but when I came back in the evening, the cars were still there!

When I looked closely, all the tyres of the cars were flat, and there was no body inside the car. When I asked my local contact, he said that these were decoy cars with no engine inside them; just an inverter to power the flashing red lights! This fools drivers into thinking that the cars are real. But all the locals know about this and they go about their regular business (speeding!)

So even governments have such tricks up their sleeve!

A good idea. I wish I could do something similar to ward off "stunters" who use the streets around my house to "hone their skills".
