dear bikers... in june 2010 issue of bikeindia.in bajaj expected ninja "650r" (not zx6r) to be launched by diwali... but as diwali has passed & stil the bike is not here simply means that rajiv is talking abt ninja 650r not abt zx6r.

            @1.5-1.6 lakhs OTR
            which seems unlikely

btw hope we see launches in the 600-800cc segment from the biggies..
btw is bajaj india scared to bring in the KTM in india fearing losses in their sales??

I think it is a bit silly considering that the big-bike market here is booming and every manufacturer is coming in a big way to carve a piece of the pie. In the face of all that, Bajaj is focusing on exports?

It is just weird...the money is here Rajiv and you are blind to not see it!

not exactly. exports earn alot more than domestic sales in rupee value. big bikes are booming? KTM is a no brand here ! while it has a solid base in the EU hence the focus?! the big bike market has started to open up.. its not booming. they sell more than a million 100cc bikes while only 1000 250cc ninja's ! that isnt booming sir. at the current rate of import duty, export makes alot more business sense than imports. dont you think if there was a market for even a 100 thousand 250cc our market would be flooded by 250cc? the managers at any of the bike manufacturers aren't fools.
                Regardless, Life shall go on.

                  Don't care about KTM...

at the current rate of import duty, export makes alot more business sense than imports. dont you think if there was a market for even a 100 thousand 250cc our market would be flooded by 250cc? the managers at any of the bike manufacturers aren't fools.
I am not talking about 250cc bikes priced at 3L. I am talking about 650cc and 750cc bikes priced at 5-7L which is an untapped market. Bajaj took the first steps and then inexplicably backed out.

One more thing - the current excise duties are where they are for a reason...lobbying by local manufacturers to make sure we have to deal with their crap or pay exorbitant sums of money to own anything else...this isn't fair market science, it is protectionism and unless the markets are opened up to free trade, we will be left behind.

How long do you think the rest of the world is going to keep their markets open to us when we don't reciprocate?

they are bringing in the 650s by march right? the hyosung bike is also coming around that time only. anyway i'm not sure that a 5L rupee bike will sell more here than in US/UK. anybody with that kind of money will want to buy a car. the indian bike market is like a pyramid the higher you go the lesser you sell. I dont understand bro, no offence but arent you in touch with reality? we sell more 100cc bikes than even 150cc bikes !! people here look @ 150cc as if its a 600cc bike !! the market will mature at its own pace.. its not controlled by manufacturers. if peoples disposable income increases even more then 150 or maybe even 250cc will become the new 100cc bikes.

we are a country of 1billion people they will do anything including wait to get inside our market. globalisation is slow process no country has a fully functional open market they have their restrictions just that we arent aware of it. besides the automotive sector isnt exactly a important sector compared to agriculture or others.

Absolutely mollycoddled in the arms of reality. Why give up a market to someone else...no matter how big or small it is? The market estimates that 2011 will be a 50Cr market for superbikes and while that is not a HUGE amount of money, SOMEONE is taking that piece of the pie and right now it is not Bajaj.

50Cr does not take into account the 650/750 class launch that Bajaj can potentially do should they choose to. That number can easily double and they will have front-row seats.

It is also a branding effort...see how the R1/MT01/Vmax launch has taken Yamaha forward! CBR1000RR and CB1000R have taken Honda forward and out of the Hero partnership because of the strength of the brand.

I don't know...from volumes standpoint it doesn't make sense but Bajaj aren't making the right noises in the market anymore!

A 5-6 L 650 class bike will sell in decent numbers adding upto the topline sales as well as branding for any company

The Ninja650 R will stand alongside the hyosung come march & a boon for enthusiastic budget bikers like me

As GS said, the market for a 5 - 7L bike is higher than a 3L 250cc. How many do u think have not bought a Ninja 250 for that primary reason(Me included)?
I agree that for 5L people would buy a car, but we are not talking about the 40+ balding gentleman wanting to ferry his children. We are talking about the late 20's - early 30's young man wanting to make a lifestyle! And for that person 10L is a HUGE sum.... 5L - 7L is just about fine. And BAJAJ are not doing that right now!
When a relatively unknown, un-infra-structured GARWARE Motors can establish base here to sell a Korean 650, what makes BAJAJ think that their infra-structured and famed Probiking centres cannot handle a Kawasaki 650 or Z750?
