Mobile phones getting not so 'mobile' now. ! Its stupid. They Should make something to stop texting while driving, not scramble voice calls signals. Oopz i forgot its in usa, yeah, why do i care.duh

So smart of the US.. now cellphones wont work inside trains and buses. Also non driving passengers of a car wont be able to use theirs. Now kidnappers dont have to bother to knock out their victims / snatch their cellphones as they wont work anyways till the car / van they are carrying their victim in is moving.

I think this will also spell the end of Google Maps based GPS navigation devices (G Maps has voice guided GPS navigation in the US alongwith streetview.) Is this move by the govt. funded by TomTom and Garmin?
Advice is a form of nostalgia.
Dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it's worth.

H: Maybe its a short-range scrambler and works only for the driver?

H : What would kidnappers do? Lets the victim speak on their mobile phone while they sit by, even if they did work?

H : GPS uses a completely different channel which can be allowed to work
            I am just speculating here

q1. What if the kidnapee is in the boot of the car?

q2. Where exactly would you install such a scrambler? on the middle marker of the road? we all know wherever you drive, the driver will always be next to the middle marker.. anyways, what happens if the driver is overtaking.

A3. I know GPS uses entirely different channels, and thats why garmin and tomtom wont be effected. But Google maps navigation speicifically requires a cellular data network to function correctly. And if they allow 3g data only (and not voice) while moving, people will start using Skype / Fring to make their calls Shimpul

I thinks it says 'adaptable in automobiles'. Most probably meaning cars instead of public buses, trains which may not be carrying such a scrambling device.

H:What if he/she is? Only a wet-behind-his-ears kidnapper would allow that. Besides my first point prevents a problem either way.

H: I dont think I quite got this question. The scrambler will be IN the automobile.

H: Its about time Google maps allowed pre-loading of maps(if it already doesnt). If they want to stay in the race they gotta do it. People who seriously use and require GPS dont use Google Maps.

Ans.1. So, Now 'wet-behind-the-ear' kidnappers will also get away

Ans.2. Good Solution BUT! (The *****y BUT is back, refer to Ans.3 for the BUT.)

Ans.3. A GPS device has to be mounted somewhere close to the driver (In your model's case, near the scrambler) Please watch the following video below and tell me Google is not serious about GPS Navigation.

Though it does not effect me, still thought of sharing. The video shows Android OS and GPS navigation is free in US and do not require any internet data subscription as in india and some other countries......
