I think the WEGO is a major success story for TVS and is mainly responsible for the 94% bump in scooter sales...the long waiting list for both Activa (3 months) and Access (4-5 months) (in bangalore) has been a blessing for TVS.
I myself bought a Wego for my wife after being let down by both Honda & Suzuki with looong waiting periods for their scooters. Now the irony is the waiting period for Wego is on the rise too, up from 3-4 days when i booked it (Nov 10) to nearly 1 month from the same dealer now due to sharp increase in sales.

^^ agreed. We too had booked an activa in nov 2010, and the Honda dealer said we will get the delivery in Jun 2011. Now thats ridiculous . Then, we took a test ride of Wego, liked it , and hence bought it .Its really a nice scoot !! The TVS dealer said Wego is doing huge business. I also noticed many buyers going for Wego !
That said, the Activa will always remain the first choice for 99% of buyers. In my opinion , people will go for other options ( access , wego, pleasure ) only because of the loooong waiting peroid for activa! .

I agree, the inability to meet the demand for the Activa has resulted in others making the best use of the opportunity. As last heard, even Yamaha is mulling over a scooter.

Though I have never ridden the Wego, it looks the best and sturdy among the Non Honda scooters to me. Among the lot the Wego looks most promising against the Scooter King Activa.

                  Go TVS, Go Wego..!!

Lately i am seeing a lot of Wegos. I think Suzuki Access is feeling the heat of it the most. And i dont think a small chunk from Activa's share would be affecting HMSI. They would remain unfazed. Btw, TVS is ramping up production from current 11-12000 units to over 20000 units per month AND it's not yet been launched in TAMIL NADU(TVS's own turf) and other north eastern states!!

I wonder how Bajaj must be looking at the scooter industry now that the sales are sky-rocketing. Even Mahindra is doing good, if Bajaj had persisted,I am sure even they would have done better.

From a biker point of view, I would prefer them to devote all its resources and concentrate on developing "motorcycles" which I would like to buy.

From a business point of view I would apply the same logic of devoting time and resources doing what one knows best, rather than "trying to" compete with a segment (scooters) which is already swarming with so many players and models.

The big reason why other scooters are selling is because Honda doesn't presently have the production capacity to meet the demand for its scooters.

Once the two new factories of HMSI will be in place, it will be interesting to see how many non Honda scooters sell and in what numbers.

By that time if the other brands establish themselves in the peoples minds, they should do well.

The Wego should do well, since all the existing owners of the scooty will naturally think of moving to the Wego (Same family).

Yes, according to me the TVS Wego and the Suzuki Access has the best change of establishing themselves but probably not beating Activa.

The Suzuki access is already a very well established brand, has a far better ride quality and engine than the activa. Not sure if you are aware, even the access has a waiting period of 3 to 4months
