Motorcycle sales in the country grew by 14.94 percent in January to 7,47,818 units from 6,50,633 units in the same month last year. Market
leader Hero Honda witnessed a growth of 15.68 percent at 4,23,434 units, as compared to the same month last year, SIAM said. Rival
Bajaj Auto gained at 1,92,026 units, up 7.15 percent from the corresponding month last year. TVS Motor Co registered sales of 50,560
units, higher by 27.50 percent from the same month last year.Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI) saw its bike sales going up by 21.30 per cent to 48,732 units last month.
According to the SIAM data, scooters segment grew by 29.57 percent to 1,80,072 units during January compared to 1,38,976 units in the same period last year. The scooter market leader HMSI's sales, however, fell marginally to 69,452 units in January, 2011, compared to the year-ago period. TVS Motor's scooter sales last month were at 38,805 units, a rise of 54.50 per cent while that of Hero Honda were at 33,928 units, an increase of 83.72 per cent from January last year.
