Dont really expect the benefits to be passed on to the consumers anytime soon. A good step nevertheless. Keeping my fingers crossed.

I am not expecting total benefit for customers but something is better than nothing. And why should we care about local manufacturers when in all those year they could not give us a decent quater liter bike...let the import roll in..

+1... I had mentioned this in another thread... About the Japan FTA that too much protection has been bestowed on them for too long a time... They do not deserve it anymore... Why should we be deprived of proper bikes at proper costs because of lazy manufacturers...

                  How much for the RSV4? Or,the S1000RR? ..

If this thing happens between India and Europe,Japanese traders will be having hard days ahead in this country...

Merc,Audi to take on Honda and Toyota, whereas Ducati,Aprilia,Beemer et al will take care of biggies from Suzuki,Honda and Yamaha..
If you ride like there's no tomorrow...worry not there won't be!

This isn't going to happen, this is not going to help the Indian automotive industry at all, all these years the government has advocated the policy of "Come to India and setup companies and take the benefit".

Do you think Indian manufacturers like TATA and Mahindra are going to keep quite?

By the way I dont think the Germans will reduce the prices by much, it is a status symbol, I dont think they will like the fact that a german premium cars cost same as the japanese cars. So they might still price their cars at a premium and keep the extra money to themselves.

PS:- The japanese are already asking for a similar FTA

Again same arguments here as on TBHP... The Indian economy is not ONLY about the auto industry... 10 other industries might benefit heavily due to increase exports, cheaper raw material imports etc. etc... The auto industry isn't the only revenue machine for the govt. Think pharmaceuticals - better cheaper medicines for the masses, think manufacturing sectors (includes the auto sector) - better equipment cheaper heavy machinery, think garment industry (employs a lot more people than the auto industry AFAIK) - more exports more expansion more employment, etc etc...

I will say it again... The auto industry is not the be all and end all of the government agenda...

I think it's a give and take policy. It's like let the Europe people make profit from us so that to enable them to import from India.Hence it will just open a bigger market for both countries..

I dont think any one should keep their spirits high on this. Beside some cut on parts and material, excise duty not gonna come down drastically. The Exercise duty and revenue department are flowing their front page ads in newspaper these days that how your taxes generates some xx,xxx corers (in 5 figure) in a year that goes in infrastructural development. The argument doesn't even stand a chance
