Lorenzo and Spies joined forces off the track in Sepang, Malaysia as Yamaha Factory Racing unveiled their new bike - the 2011 YZR-M1.
A new bike, a new livery and a new-look combination were all unveiled by Yamaha Factory Racing at Sepang International Circuit today.
One thing hasn't changed - the presence of reigning MotoGP champion Jorge Lorenzo.
The Spaniard's new teammate is 2010 Rookie of the Year Ben Spies, who replaces the Ducati-bound nine-time world champion Valentino Rossi.
Yamaha Factory Racing are hoping their state-of-the-art 2011 YZR-M1 will help secure a fourth consecutive Triple Crown of Riders', Teams' and Constructors' titles.
The Japanese manufacturer is giving little away about the new bike's technical specifications, but recent test reports suggest it boasts a slightly more powerful motor and a refined chasis.
Spies was promoted from the Yamaha Tech 3 team after finishing sixth in his first MotoGP season - and the 26-year-old from Tennessee already seems to be getting along just fine with Lorenzo.
"A good relationship. He's a good guy, very quiet. So for the human aspect we don't have any problem. Also, we both know that the other rider of the other side of the garage is very competitive. From my side, I am the world champion. For his side, he's the Rookie of the Year of course in '10 and he's progressing really quick. So think if you take it from a positive point of view it's a good thing for the future for both riders,” says Lorenzo, MotoGP world champion.
Lorenzo and Spies will get plenty of time on the YZR-M1 in the second of the three pre-season tests, which starts at Sepang on Wednesday.
The season's first race is the Qatar GP on March 20.
