Dirt bikers rake up dust in Nilgiris race !

UDHAGAMANDALAM: Nine kilometers outside Ooty, the silence of a mountain hamlet called Kilkouhatty was suddenly invaded on Sunday by the roars of racing engines as over 250 dirt bikers from across the country competed against each other in a national level dirt bike racing competition.
Organised by the Nilgiri Motor Sports Club, Dirt Motor Sport' as the event was called, was held on a 900 metre long track and motorists had to race their bikes through seven laps of the same track to complete the race.
The races were classified into seven categories including the expert class, interim class, novice class and beginner class.
M Manish, vice-president, Nilgiri Motor Sports Club, told TOI, "The first prize winner in each class will receive an amount of `10,000 each."
The racing event attracted more than 900 viewers from across the country. R.Sureshbabu, a motor enthusiast from Bangalore said, "I have come here to pick some tips as I intend to participate in such competitions in the future. I had also attended this race last year, when it was held in February 2010 by the same organisation, Nilgiri Motor Sports Club."
The event was kicked off by chief guests Vikram Mathias, Indian National Rally Champion and Nilgiri SP, Kaliraj S Maheshkumar.
