This is happening because they want to export it to most countries, including developed ones. And also because RTR is more favorable for bikers than the Pulsar now, considering the Specs. The existing chassis is so out of place.

150 doesn't give good handling. 180 & 200 might be a bit better at high speed handling, but again, their chassis/ swingarm itself is heavy.
Bajaj just plonked in the 220's chassis into the P180, but that also bought more weight complaints. Now, the 180 and 220 go some 147 and 148 kgs respectively.
So, they can't export into most countries with this setup, can they?

I have always maintained that Bajaj need a new chassis with low wheelbase (1330mm or so), good high speed handling, lighter weight and good feedback, so that they can plonk it to the entire Pulsar range.

The original Discover 125 and 135 had engines which were based on the Pulsar engines.. which have already been replaced.
The current Discover 100, 125 & 150 have engines based on the XCD platform.

Mr. Bajaj has already mentioned about it in interviews about the next gen Pulsars getting the KTM DNA.

@ noah: They have been rewarded so far, for that 10 years R&D. And obsolescence is a harsh reality today.
However, they might retain important bits like DTSi, Bike design, etc. into the KTM platform too.

I think this Duke 125 will be overbored and overstroked to form the 150s, 180s and the 200s of tomorrow! This way, concept of parts sharing lives on! And then they can live without updating for 2-4 years.

And think about it- this duke seems to have everything Pulsar needed- sturdy engine components, lightweight chassis with small wheelbase, etc.

Parts sharing & cheaper manufacturing costs are the two main drivers of this alliance between Bajaj & KTM!! Pulsar benefits a lot from KTM's expertise, KTM gets handsome margins on these bikes produced at Pune.. that's a win-win combination for both.. and for all bikers coz, this alliance takes Pulsars to next level and competition will be forced to up their ante!!

I dont see bajaj bringing out a faired bike anytime soon. Even ktm have only two faired bikes in their lineup i guess.
