standardization of anything is good, and so is for tyres, though the situation is a bit dicey for imported tyres.

it all depends on what is the standardization critiria for tyres, what conditions they put in thier codes and all.

for imported tyres, those companies which seriously want business in india, can do it by getting thier product tested and certified. they should not have any problem in this, because apart from good companies like pirelli, michelin etc, there are some low quality cheap chinese kind of tyres also available, whose quality is debateble.

Let's hope imported tyres make it through.

I remember one guy was troubled by a Policeman because his DAIJYA helmet had no ISI mark on it. Why should Daijya even care about a stupid certification like ISI, which even Rs. 400 helmets can get damn easily?

So guys, what will our R1's run on? 140/60 from the FZ/ CBR 250? or 100/80 from the R15??

it is not good to call ISI certification as stupid.
ISI certification sets the minimum benchmark criteria and not the highest criteria. you can make your product as good as you want but you can not make it poor than ISI recomended level.

it protects people from suffering because of poor quality products.

ISI certification is definitely a good thing. it never stops you from producing and selling better products but it prevents companies from cheating customers by selling poor quality products.

ISI certification does not mean that the product has to be manufactured by an indian company. it simply means that we will not accept poor quality products, and if the international MNC's are so proud of thier products and boast that their quality is top notch, then why not go ahead and get the certification. it does not cost a bomb to get a certification. and getting a certification will not harm them. will it???
