  • BMW targets sale of 50 superbikes by year-end

    17 Apr, 2011, 11.49AM IST,PTI

MUMBAI: German auto major, BMW, which debuted in the domestic market three months ago with a host models in the two-wheeler segment , is aiming to sell 50 motor-cycles by end-this year, besides introducing bikes below 1,000 cc.

"We have already sold 23 bikes so far and our target is to sell 50 bikes by December 2011," Navnit Motors' Managing Director, Sharad Kachalia, told PTI here.

BMW introduced its bikes in the domestic market in January this year.

Globally, BMW's motor-cycle venture is known as BMW Motorrad and at present it sells its products at two outlets in Delhi and Mumbai.

BMW Motorrad's superbikes are imported into the country by two dealers, Deutsche Motoren and Navnit Motors.

"All our models have a good demand...but our two models -- S1000 RR and R1200 GS -- are witnessing a greater demand. We have six models and all bikes are above 1,000 cc and in the price range Rs 18-25-lakh," he said.

The German auto major sells six models of its bikes -- R1200R, S1000RR, R1200GS, K1300, K1600GTL and HP2 -- in the country.

50 is such a humble figure considering the above known figure to BMW. why such low expectations anyway?

I guess all those bikers cribbing about exclusivity on CBR250R thread should have a look at BMWs now ... 50 bikes only in a nation of billions .... what more exclusivity can one ask for?

Its mystry for me still. Some official at BMW in March has denied that they have officially launched Motorrad in India yet. He said that two BMW car dealerships are currently importing the bikes and the BMW themselves....
And perhaps thats why the costs.....

@ Rossiter: +1. This stuff was more of an experiment for them. They must have thought, "Ok, let's sell the bikes at 50% profits and see what happens?!"

But why is K1300 not in high demands, it is the fastest naked bike after all. Is it due to the twin different headlights setup or due to the fact that it is not that famous as of now?
