  • Garware Motors aims to sell 2,000 Hyosung bikes in India this year

MUMBAI: Pune-based Garware Motors targets a sale of 2,000 Hyosung bikes this year and expand its dealership to 15 pan-India in the next three-months, a top company official said.

The company, along with South Korea's S&T Motors, had launched two Hyosung branded premium bikes in the country earlier in the week.

"We are targeting a sale of 2,000 bikes this year. We are in the midst of expanding our dealerships -- we presently have five which we plan to increase to 15 in the next three-months," Garware Motors' Managing Director, Diya Garware, told reporters here today.

The bikes are priced between Rs 4.97-lakh and Rs 5.96-lakh (ex-showroom, Mumbai), she said.

The company plans to open five dealerships in Hyderabad, Cochin, Chennai, Ahmedabad & Chandigarh within next two-months.

The company has launched its GT650R ( bike), powered by a 650 cc engine, in two options for Rs 4.97-lakh (single colour) and Rs 5.13-lakh (double colour). It has also rolled-out a 700 cc cruise bike, ST7, for Rs 5.96-lakh.

"We are the first Indian company to launch bikes in the 650-700 cc segments. We are happy to bring to India the Hyosung bikes by S&T Motors of South Korea. We plan to add their entire range of bikes into our collection in the next three-years," Garware said.

This is the second entry for the Hyosung brand in India. In 2004, the company, then known as Hyosung, had forayed into the Indian market under a different management.

In 2007, the Hyosung Motors Division was acquired by the S&T Group, which has retained the brand name 'Hyosung'.

For its latest Indian venture, S&T Motors has formed a partnership with home-grown Garware Motors, which has invested Rs 20-crore to set up the assembly line at Wai with a production capacity of 8-10 bikes per day on a single shift.

Yes they are superbikes .. if N250R is superbike here then surely they are..

i think mark of 2000 bikes in next 8 months is seems like over optimistic .. i really doubt they can sell that much

            Says who?

Bikes with "1000 cc inline 4" engines and "1200 cc twin cylinder" engines are considered as SUPERBIKES for the SBK championship.

Internationally Kawasaki doesn't even categorize the Ninja250R as a "SuperSports" bike.. it is categorized as just a "Sports" bike.

                Sunil bhai,

Actually that's how most sites are stating the GT650R and ST7.. as SUPERBIKES

the ninja could manage only 1000 units in just over a year. 2000 units in 8 months is next to impossible

I highly doubt they can... Maybe by the end of next year after the launch of the naked and the 250...

@ Rony... There should be an option for "Maybe" in the poll...

I know, very few people actually understand what a real "superbike" is.

whether or not it is a superbike, it definitely is a good bike, but that sales target does look too ambitious............

maybe they don't want to give their sales team any incentive at the end of year...........thats why, such a target...................
