Take for example of MotoGP crash at somewhere around 200kmph, the rider simply walks away and one should note that on many occasion, the helmet barely comes in hard contact with the road. So its not simply all about the speed. In contrast a fall at 60kmph with the head directly hitting the road first, or at the same speed, flying off the bike and hitting a solid stationary object head first will be more dangerous. Thats when impact resistance will really count.

A certified helmets such as Snell, DOT is certainly the way to go as far as safety is concern. When it comes to crashes, the survival factor not only depends on the construction, but also on the manner of the crash.

cant agree more...my first helmet was studds ninja..i (thankfully) lost it...(please dont ask how...Originally posted by aargee View PostAbhijit - A friend of mine told me an accident that happened to his friend a few month ago. His friend was wearing a Studds Ninja (as you may be aware that it has a clip & lock mechanism that can be used as sun shade), probably a good one & in condition, met with an accident & the foldable part simply broke open & hit his face directly. So instead of protecting, it simply caused more damage.
Ever since I heard that, I'm very wary of such helmets. Call me old school, but, like Pulsater, I too believe in simple straight forward things.
To me, its an integral part & carrying helmet is PRIDE like this...

)..then got LS2 Dragon... but one thing is common...I prefer to carry my helmet in hand with pride rather than leaving on bike (or inthis case folding...)
Regarding the Design and the technology involved...I would just like to add the example of formula one cars...the are made of one sheet of meta..no joints whatsoever...I guess you all can understand why...
P.S. : personal opinion...

Scenario: You have an awesome full face helmet, SNELL/DOT/ISO etc certified. Its beautiful in design and comfortable to wear. Its the safest thing your head can get. Then, you plan a vacation to, say, Germany. Being the rich bugger you are, you go there for a 2 week stay. The country is simply beautiful and the scenery is exotic. The local guide advices you to rent a bike and travel around the country, after all, Germany has some great roads. Now, you rent a good bike for a great deal and are about to set off, when the rental owner hands you a crap helmet. Ouch! You should have brought your Full Face Arai! But how can you carry that big thing in your suitcase?? It just wont fit and even if it does, it'll take too much space and you will be without other luggage.
hmmm, if you had just bought a Proteus helmet, you could have kept it in your bag, tucked away in a corner, for situations such as this. That's why the designer made it. She never intended to compete with current brands. All she wanted was the availability of choice for consumers. Its a darn good choice too! I rather take the Proteus than wear a dirty, smelly, lice infested rental helmet! Get the point?Last edited by ZeNashB; 06-02-2011, 11:06 AM.D'oh!

Helmet for commuters
Guys most of us here on xbhp are hardcore bikers and we love to show the world what we are, and then helmet is our pride crown which we all love to show off.
Now think of the commuting mass for whom helmet is a mess regardless of their safety. And considering the sats off accidents on road, its these commute riders who are involved, and even there life is precises. So for the bigger crowd of bikers on the road for whom biking is just a mood of transport than a passion, providing safety with convenes is a born. And I believe this product is for those folks around who think riding slow is safe enough without mess of carrying helmets.

By the time these helmets come to India its gonna take a long time. And in this period, our so called cheap helmet manufacturers will implement this idea in their cheap helmets causing many riders to buy it without even thinkin abt its safety! Obviously half of the youth of India doesnt believe in safety! They just believe in style. Replica's of some things can never take its original place! If you value your life as much as i value my bike.. dont f*ck with it!! Don't ride as if u stole it cos u OWN it!!
