The off road bike market will be seeing some action in India. Many companies are planning off road bikes now.

Re-naming the company with fresh bike (like dirt track bike) is good idea, it can be a mascot during brand transitioning period. Good Luck to HERO MOTOCORP !

Actually hero did introduce India's first "Dual Purpose" (that would be the right word) bike back in the mid 90's. The BMW F 650 Funduro.

The Funduro was way ahead of its time for India.. not to mentioned very highly priced back then. But now things are different.. a "Dual Purpose" bike would be a breath of fresh air in the Indian motorcycle market.

It a real pity/surprising that TVS Motor with its very rich Motocross/Supercross racing heritage in India does not think in this direction.

i never knew that F650 was introduced by hero motors.........you mean to say, there was a collabration between hero and BMW and the bike was sold and services at hero honda oulets?? but how is this possible- hero had a collaboration with honda on one hand and BMW on the other???

anyway....so is this bike still available in india for purchasing - i mean new not second hand. in fact it is a good bike for touring for people like us who cant afford other 1000CC or 1200cc tourers.....last i knew was that this bike was priced between-1 & 3 lakhs...???

Yes Hero did enter with a business colaboration with BMW to sell the F650 Funduro in India back in the mid 1990's.

If I remember correctly, the bike was priced around Rs. 4 lakhs back then. But the market response was so poor that soon Hero had to sell the unsold stock at around at a throw away 2 lakhs. [Any informed member can correct me if I am wrong about the prices]

Getting a used BMW F650 would be a very risky affair.. apart from service where will one source the spares from?

Wonder if your friend had picked up from the unsold/discounted lot.

well actually he bought it off a friend of his in Chembur for 2.75 lac.

used it for 6 years. then sold it for 4 lac recently.
but it was in pristine condition when he sold it.
