"The Munjal family-promoted Hero Group is driving back into the premium bike market.
Almost six years after its mega bike venture with German giant BMW failed. Hero Motors
has now joined hands with Aprilia, a leading bike maker from Italy, to introduce its
range of motoscooters and top-end motorcycles in India. The bikes, expected to be
priced in Rs. 1.5 Lakh to 3 Lakh range, are slated to hit the Indian roads early next
year. This would mark the Hero Group's re-entry into the rather non-existent top-end
bike market in India.Hero intends to import these bikes into India and market them.
"its just a marketing arrangement with Aprilia and Hero will be Aprilia's face in the
Indian market, besides assisting it in setting up special dealer outlets. We are not
looking at assembling the high-end bikes in India as it was with BMW", a senior said.
He added that there will be no equity arrangement between Aprila and Hero. While
Hero's Pankaj Munjal conformed the tie-up, he refused to comment further. " I cannot
comment on your queries at this point in time.", he said. Hero aso intends to
introduce a range of Aprilia motoscooters in India under the tie-up."
