TVS Motor Company sales for December 2011 remained flat at 170,428 units against 171,790 units in December 2010.
The company’s cumulative sales (April to December 2011) grew 10 per cent at 1,670,040 units from the previous comparable period.
Total two-wheeler sales stood at 167,905 units in December 2011 (168,359 in December 2010.) Domestic two-wheeler sales was down to 146,747 units (1,49,357).
Scooters grew 7 per cent to 44,804 units, while motorcycles sales dipped 7 per cent to 56,662 units.
Exports registered a growth of 6 per cent with sales of 22,481 units in December 2011. Two-wheeler exports grew 11 per cent to 21,158 units.
The company sold 2,523 three-wheelers in December 2011 against 3,431 units in the same month of the previous year. Cumulative three-wheeler sales from April to December 2011 was 32,047 units, a growth of 15 per cent over the same period of the previous year.
Bajaj Auto - 10% Growth:
The rather lower-than-expected growth in December 2011 sales of vehicles by Bajaj Auto saw the scrip skid 4.88 per cent in the early hours of trading, the first day of trading in the new year.
The Bajaj Auto shares lost Rs 77.80 to trade at Rs 1,515, a loss of 4.88 per cent, on the BSE at 10.40 a.m.
It is not that the numbers were bad considering the challenging market environment. Bajaj Auto sold 2,63,699 motorcycles in December 2011 compared with 2,43,675 vehicles a year ago in the same period, a growth of 8 per cent. The commercial vehicles' sales were 41,991 vehicles (33,128), up 27 per cent.
The overall sales of vehicles at 3,05,690 (2,76,803) showed a more modest 10 per cent growth, which probably was below the market expectations. But in all the three categories, the company recorded its best December month performance ever.
In exports also, the overall figure of 1,19,708 vehicles was a 25 per cent increase over the corresponding period in 2010 at 95,388 vehicles. The individual export figures were not available but this was also the best ever December for the company whose vehicle sales crossed the magical figure of 1 million vehicles a quarter for the third time in a row.
Honda Motors - 36% Growth:
Two-wheeler manufacturer Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI) has reported a 36.15 per cent growth in sales in December 2011 at 1,91,584 units over the year-ago period.
The company had sold 1,40,719 units in the corresponding month in the previous year, HMSI said in a statement.
Motorcycle sales jumped 24.97 per cent to 78,721 units in December last year against 62,991 units in December 2010, it added.
The company reported an increase of 45.20 per cent in scooter sales to 1,12,863 units compared with 77,728 units in December 2010.

Mumbai, January 03, 2012: Mahindra Two Wheelers Ltd (MTWL), a part of the US $14.4billion Mahindra Group, continued to build its presence in the two wheeler segment.
The company’s cumulative scooter sales from April to December 2011 stood at 1,06,496 units. Sales in December 2011 were 6231 units.

The cumulative sales of the company during the April 2011 – January 2012 period has been recorded at 51,83,440 units, a 17.4 percent growth over the corresponding period of April 2010 – January 2011 when the company recorded 44,14,537 units in sales.
